Question About a Syrinx

I was hoping to get a "jury of my peers" response.  I seen my onc. in Jan. who did my blood workup and an MRI(3 sections).  It came back NED but the radiologist wrote "small cervicothoracic syrinx versus dilation of the central cord canal. Cervical spine MRI is recommended to evaluate the superior extent of this lesion." I took that report to my GP who was going to send me for an MRI on it, but at the suggestion of the onc., set me up with a neurosurgeon.  I seen him today.  BTW..I have been having back pain before all of this. The neurosurgeon says the lesion is very small and could have been there since I was little.  He will call the radiologist and see what he thinks. (even though the radiologist is the one that recommended the MRI to begin with).  But he feels its nothing.  I was pretty frustrated when I left.  I guess because he couldn't answer me on why my back hurt and because he didn't speak to the radiologist before I got there.  It made no sense to me.  Shouldn't he have done that before I went to see him.  And if the radiologist didn't think it necessary, why would he write it?  So, on the drive back home from what I felt was a waste of time, me and my husband got into an argument.  I said I was upset because I didn't get any answers.  He said the doctor thinks its nothing and I should go with that. (there was more to the argument that that, but I'm cutting it short).  So..my question is..is it me?  Am I just being to worried?  Should I let it go and just move on.  The back pain is real, but this guy said no fix with surgery maybe some shots.  I can do that.  Maybe I am over reacting on the Syrinx thing and should just leave it be.  I read these boards alot, but don't post.  Alot of times I read them and think the woman is over the top and she needs to calm down.  So, that is very possible of myself right now.  What would you guys do?  And do you think I'm just going crazy?  I have had my ovaries out! :-)

Thanks ladies!  I appreciate any comments.

I guess no one wanted to tell me I'm going crazy.  Appreciate the support!

Little-G ~ I didn't see your post until now, and I had to look up the word syrinx, so I'm not sure how much help my input will be!  But the definition of a syrinx appears to be a fluid filled cavity within the spinal cord, which doesn't sound like a bc lesion, at least to me.  On the other hand, I don't think you're crazy for wanting a more definitive answer and solution to your pain.  So what I'm wondering is -- and I guess how bad your pain is figures into this -- but could you possibly wait 6 months and have another MRI done, to see if there's any change?   If your pain is too bad to wait around, then perhaps you could have a different radiologist take a look at your MRI results for a second opinion.  The other docs are being influenced by what the radiologist reports, and maybe it would give you peace of mind if another one was in total agreement, or perhaps a different one would have a different explanation for your pain.  Just my two cents worth, along with an attempt to bump this thread for you ~   Deanna

Forgot to add -- hooray for the no surgery recommendation!  You certainly don't want to go through that, do you?  Maybe if you could get peace of mind about the syrinx area, a chiropractor would be an option for the back pain?

I've had back pain for months and still have, but I've now accepted it's either old age, estrogen starvation or arthritis or whatever......thats after five months of stress and about seven different scans (pet/ct / mri)   ......

I waited and then repeated all the tests and whatever suspicious  spot was there had  disappeared so not sure if it was read incorrectly initially or if it was something else.

I still don;t have a diagnosis for my this back ache, but have had every test possible so hope this also is a benign condition for you that will resolve in time.
