Question: does this sound legit?
I myself have not been diagnosed with BC (though it runs in my family), but my best friend was recently diagnosed with BC. I love her and I don't want to question what she tells me, but what she does tell me does not seem to add up.
I constantly try to get information out of her: what doctor did she see? has she seen a specialist? what did they think? what is her diagnosis? (she doesn't or won't say or text the full diagnosis or name or whatever) what are the doctors going to do about it? But like I said she doesn't like to give me direct answers, and that could be an effect of denial (she's only 17). She seems to have stopped at the word "cancer" and....just breaks.
She told me like two and a half weeks ago that she went to the clinic to get birth control, and had to have various tests, like a pap and a manual breast exam I guess. Well, the doctor didn't think the 3 cm mass was a cyst or anything like that and referred my friend to a hospital. Apparently, they didn't know what it was either and referred her to UAMS after "poking [her] boobs with needles". She says that she has not had a biopsy, even through a needle, takes medication to make the mass grow, and goes for more needle treatmenst once a week. I have made sure that I did not misunderstand her or come to my own conclusions: she told me they had diagnosed it as BC. The information I have gotten out of her doesn't make sense to me or my friends who work in the medical field. I was hoping someone would have a better understanding of what I have been told, because I can't get information from her or her family, or obviously her doctor.
Karla is afraid of the doctor so I don't think she would lie and say something like that, plus it's just not something to play with.
I truly love her and am there for her as much as I can be, I'm honest and stable, which I hope helps her panic. I just need to know what I'm dealing with.
Does any of that make sense? What would you suggest I do?

I'm sorry your friend has to deal with this in such a young age. But I must tell I don't think they could diagnose her without the biopsy.

It really doesn't sound right - they have to do a biopsy and the lab has to examine the matter in order to actually make a diagnosis. There would never be a reason (or a medication) to attempt to grow the mass, either. Sorry, but I think your friend has some issues that don't necessarily involve breast cancer.

No, doesn't sound right at all. Even if they did insert a needle and try to withdraw fluid, that still is NOT a biopsy. What other kind of weekly "needle treatments" to her breast is she having? what should you do? Well, continue to listen for one thing, and try and talk to her mother.

I figured as much....
To Jenniferz, I have no idea...I'm pretty much at the point where I feel like hog-tying her and going to her doctor appointments with her, making her let the doctor let me listen in and ask questions. And her mother is not in the picture. She has her father and her new stepmother, who works at UAMS for some reason or another. Her parents are very laid-back, but I don't see how any parent could be laid back about something like that.
Thank you for your responses! Good luck!
