Paget's breast cancer

Polyana,
Yes you can live with pagets for years without being aware that it is there. Remember, paget's by itself isn't too bad and has a great success rate for treatement.

Hi Hannah
I have had all of operations, had a rough time but that was due to other underlying condition. I had the mastectomy reconstruction with implant and reduction of the other breast. To many procedure for one time.
-
I second this view Paget was a blessing in disguised, if I had not had it my Cancer would have been undiagnosed or not diagnosed at such an early stage.

JC123 that is a lot of surgeries! I have had 5 surgeries including my mastectomy and still have two more to finish my reconstruction over the last two years. I didn't think it would take this long so it gets to me some times. I want to put this all behind me hopefully by fall this year I will have my nipple made.

Dear all,
After living with these symptoms for 3 years without any impact or change in lump, breast size, shape...etc I went and had a FNAC and never in my thoughts had I thoughts of anything negative.
I did the FNAC and the report says suggestive of highly invasive carcinoma. (I do not have the result to write it exactly).
I did a chest x-ray that said
A well defined round shaped, opacity is seen projecting in the right lung base in the P.A view which is not well appreciated in the lateral view mostly representing the shadow of the nipple
Clear both lung fields and costophernic angles
Normal cardiace size and configuration
I did an ultra sound that said:
There is R breast well defined hypoechic smooth margins 2.3 X1.6 with horizontal merit. Picture of benign lesions. Free axillary's lymph nodes
Other abdomen, pelvic and stomach pictures are clean.
I did a full blood test and urine which all came normal and clean too.
My treating doctor is insisting that I do not have IC. The other doctors whom I traveled to, believe I need to act quickly and do the surgery... I am caught by surprise; I do not know what to do and do not know where to take it from.
Therefore I need the support of all the readers in this forum to help me and guide me, especially those who have passed by this experience.
- How come I have an IC and live with it for 3 years without causing any symptoms in my breast that cause me to worry to that extent.
- I had read that there are many cases of pathology reports suggesting invasive carcinoma but when done on excision biopsy it was benign. What are the chances of false positive false negative FNAC.
- I had read about other disease mimicking paget's disease to a great extent, that if not carefully monitored could lead to unnecessary surgery such as: syringmatous adenoma of the nipple, or papilloma, or nipple adenoma. When I spoke to the dr. about them and asked him, he said he never heard of this, and this is very rare. Does he mean I do not have chances for benign results.
- How can we compare the different findings of the U/S and the FNAC and the chest X-Ray?
- If diagnosed with paget's what are the treatment options I have. Is it lumpectomy, or mastectomy based on mass size given aboce.
- What are the survival rates for paget's disease.
- What other treatments would I have: chemo or radiation..etc
- Any thing that I need to know. I was told about exercise, nutrition and vitamin E supplements, and anti-oxidants is this true, has any cancer treating centers spoke about this and their positive impact on treatment.
I look for the support, patience, guidance and assistance from all of you. Please do not hesitate to share with me any piece of info that would be useful. Thanks

Here is my cytology report.
Gross pathology: an ill defined firm mass at the right retro-areolar region, with ulcerated crusted nipple. The nipple was dry. The mass was aspireated for cytology. The aspirate was moist.
CYTOLOGY:
Smears of the aspirate showed cellular pattern, made up of irregular clusters of loosely cohesive ductal epithelial cells with moderate cellualr atypia. Sporadic similar cells are also seen. Few inflammatory cells are observed.
DIANGOSIS:
Right retro-areolar breast mass, fnac of highly atypical ductal cells favouring cytologic malignancy suggestive for invasive duct carcinoma.
comment: it is a rule that cytologic malignancy is to be documented by biopsy and tissue diagnosis with ot without forzen section
Please correlate with the clinical radiologic findings and serum level of tumor markers

I recently found a very small bump on my nipple. I immediately went to my doctor, and everything is in motion to diagnose possible Paget's disease.
From what I read, the symptom is a dry patch. I do not have that. What I have is a small bump, which I thought was an insect bite because it was very itchy. Within a month, the bump not only stayed, but grew a little. I now have two other bumps on the same nipple. There are no other symptoms - no discharge, no dryness. The bumps are the same colour as my skin. They are not itchy at this time.
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this type of situation, and what was the outcome?
My thoughts are with you all.

Hi Opera,
I know the waiting for answers can seem to put you into a free fall, but I've found that with Paget's, as well as my IDC, that no two cases are exactly alike. The main thing for you is to continue with your doctor until you know something for sure, either way.
I had no symptoms of Paget's, but had a 4.5 cm tumor on the left side of my breast (not even close to the nipple). It did not show up on a diagnostic biopsy that included some tissue of the nipple, but did show up on the pathology tests run on the tissue after my mastectomy.
While there is not conclusive research that would lead the doctor to believe that I have Paget's in my remaining breast, I plan to have it removed when I finally have reconstructive surgery simply for my own peace of mind.

I'm very worried. I have a tiny bit of like soft crusting on my left nipple duct. it can come off and it is soar if i get it off for a bit. it developes about two weeks afer ive taken it off, but then again its only a bit. its a greysish colour and it doesnt look discusting or anything but i am worried especially that its only on my left breast.
I have no history of breat cancer in my family and my mum and I have naturally lumpy breasts. I went to see the doctor last month, but i had removed the bit of soft crust before seeing him and he found my breasts normal but said if it appeares again to see him again. so I've made an appointment for Monday morning but I'm too nervouse to ait till then. About 2 years ago i had a whitish sticky discharge coming out my nipples but that was like a day before my period so i doubt that has anything to do with this. I know that any type of crusting is not normal and I've never heard of soft grey crusting either. I'm only 19 years old and I panic loads so if anyone could please give me some advise or tell me what they think it could be appart from pagets? :S cause whenever i search nipple crusting on the internet the only thing that comes out is pagets or breat cancer, nothing else. Please help.
