Ok, I'm good - she showed what had shown up on the original- a denser looking area- as I'm 36 I still have pretty dense breasts anyway. my original tumor showed up clear as day on the mammo tho. So before we started she said there was a note saying it was probably a compression issue- like an area got folded or something- wish they'd told me that on the phone yesterday! so we took new films and that was it- I'm fine. Yay!! no ultrasound, no biopsy!
tricia, I am sorry about your kitty. I have three and they are wonderful to have around- my oldest is 13 and I dread the day anything happens to her.
JPS- I hope your biopsy is B9!! If you don't mind me asking- how come you are followed up with MRI/Ultrasound every 6 months? I've only been told once a year- there doesn't seem to be any consistency in how we are followed up. I am friends with two local women I met here- we all go to oncs in the same practice and we all have different follow ups as far as what scans we had pre and post chemo, there just doens't seem to be any protocol or rhyme or reason.
-
Alyad - I don't mind at all, and thanks for the good thoughts...SO HAPPY FOR YOUR NEWS. I had cancer in both breasts, DCIS with a micro invastion in the left, and a more extenstive and serious (in the nodes) Invasive Lobular in the right. The ILC was found by accident after mammography and u/s biopsy found the left cancer, because my breast surgeon ordered a breast MRI. ILC is very sneaky - doesn't show up on mammography for a long time, if ever - thus the vigilance. I was having mammograms every 6 months and MRI once a year, but now she alternates MRI and mammogram/ultrasound. She was able to do lumpectomies so part of the result of keeping the girls is all this looking. This is the first time since July 06 (just after I finished chemo) that anything has been seen. That one was B9; hoping for same. Surgeon thinks very low likelihood, but they don't do watch and wait when you already have "history".
It does seem to be true that the follow up protocols are all over the map. I don't do any tumor markers, for example, though in my area and in my oncologist's practice they are 'standard'. She and I agreed not to. I guess there is so much 'mix and match' in bc it can be difficult to standardize.
-
Alyad- so happy for u!!
Jps-Hoping your resuklts are B9..I agree w/ you on the fact that protocols are all over the map.
I just finished rads in Oct...and have been waiting to see what they have lined up for me. I have a family history and they consider me young 38 at dx. So far they have hit me w/ everything that they can. I had a mx in July and still had to do 33 rads plus the booster after dose dense. It seems my onc will not give me a direction just see you in 8 weeks or now 3 months and of course the scan....how often??? who knows...I am thinking maybe yearly?? I am trip neg so they cant give me hormones..this is his way of keeping an eye on me.
its been making me crazy in my free moments..i try not to go there but your life can change so quickly...

-
Tricia,that's wonderful,and i'm sooooo happy for you!!
Shirley, sorry i didn't get back here sooner, but the brace i wear isjust a wrist brace. My wrist is painful, and swollen, they say it's not lymphadema and have ruled out blood clots. It goes to sleep all the time,so they're thinking it's the nerves. The one dr wanted to do nerve testing, but that means needles,in that arm,and i'm afraid to go there. So i declined that offer.

Just a quick note to say the biopsy went fine, very quick; doctor who did it also thinks very low likelihood that this one is "anything"...let's hope the microscope agrees! Feeling pretty good. Leigh
-
Leigh...saw your name on the outside of this thread so I thought I would check to see what is going on....sending my prayers for only good news...B9, B9, B9....... yesterday marked my 4 years since Dx. Hugs. Karen
-
Hi Karen - Thanks! I remember - my dx was stretched out over several weeks in January, so it's hard for me to pinpoint a one-day anniversary. I have a pretty good feeling that this is nothing - but I'll be happier when I KNOW. Happy anniversary!! Many, many more to come! Leigh
-
jps, be sure and let us know. That cake looked awesome! my DH and I got some frozen custard last night to celebrate the clear mammo! I like to believe that everything happens for a reason and that to a certain degree we create our own reality- but WTH? that callback just gave me a bunch of unneeded anxiety for nothing!
-
Hi Ladies, I've been going crazy as my internet was down since yesterday so could'nt log into see the news.
Jps, I know you're still waiting but hoping so much the initial thoughts are right and this is nothing:)
There's a huge piece of that cake left especially for YOU!!!!!!
Tricia xx
-
Hey, the fact that I "had" to be in Florida to see the surgeon, have the biopsy, and wait for the results, means that I'M NOT IN CHESTER, MARYLYAND, on the CHESPEAKE BAY, getting TWO FEET PLUS of snow...there has to be a bright side, no? Leigh
-
jps, I'm feeling REAL good about your B9 results. Ask Tricia. I KNOW! Snow? Did you say SNOW? Can you imagine...two feet of snow or more?!? Dreadful!
Alyad, you deserved that frozen yogurt.
Tricia, I know what you mean by not being able to access the internet. When my family is here or we're with them (at their house), I don't seem to have time to get on the computer...OR, I feel guilty if I do. It drives me nuts!
Still will be waiting for the good news, jps.
-
Shirley and JO - thanks for the good thoughts. Will post as soon as I can tomorrow afternoon. I really have that "nothing" feeling about this
Leigh
-
Holding good thoughts for results tomorrow Leigh and I also have a "good" feeling for you:)
Jo, thanks so much for your congrats and I can still hardly believe it myself:) I think we all get the jitter's as test times come but here's hoping yours will be uneventful except to celebrate the good news:)

Hi Girls
I was doing so well & getting on with life 18 months out from dx. Last week a large lump appeared over night. Went to the clinic had ultrasound and biopsy on Friday and just waiting for the results.
Scared stiff.

Hi all. I need to ask for some assistance from this group. Last year I had IDC in both breasts so has neo DD chemo ACT, bilateral mx with expanders, Tamox, hysterectomy, Femara, implant exchange and now Zometa and Boniva for bone loss. Well, last week I felt what feels "lump like" to me in a few spots. One is on the scar in the right breast and the other is on the side of the left breast. I called my BS and I see him on Wednesday. I know that I am freaking because this time last year my lump was definitely something to worry about. I have been told that it is most likey scar tissue, maybe a seroma, I don't know. I do know that it is WAY too soon to have to deal with this again if they turn out to be something. Anyone that had a mx with or without recon feel similar "lumpiness" and it was nothing? I was doing great mentally until this. I don't know if I could have been anymore aggressive in my treatment. The only thing I did not do was rads.
-
nene,
I just had my exchange surgery, so Im not aware of the lumps or bumps that come with it. Im sorry. I had a bump along my scar line with my expander for 2 yrs. Onc said it was the expander and it never changed shape or size...
I dont think there is anything that I can say to help with this anxiety. Im glad you are going Wednesday to check it out. Ive read that recurrences can happen soon after treatment and if there is a mastectomy it will usually present itself along the scar line. Ive read that it usually "pea sized". I have yet to come across photos of what a recurrence looks like or feels like. BUT...you say that there is another lump in the opposite breast...so maybe its just that ....lumps.
what a pain in the you know what!!!!
Just when your feeling good emotionally...some other crap happens. I felt like this last month after my cyp2d6 test.
I hope someone else can help answer your question...or better yet...someone who has had a recurrence after mastectomy can offer some insight!
-
Hi Mal and Nene,
I had a lumpectomy rather than a mast but like Jo, still feel a hard lump there which is scar tissue.
Wishing you both benign results and please keep us posted:)
Tricia xx
-
Mal and Nene - thinking good thoughts for you both.
All my waiting room sisters - BENIGN!! Surgeon and I did happy dance, very small fibroadenoma, no need to remove, next check in routine breast MRI and (right side) ultrasound in August.
Thank you all SO much! Leigh
-
Leigh....came to check to see if you had heard anything yet and so thrilled for you for B9 results...I can just see you doing the happy dance....happy dance for B9 and happy dance not to be buried in snow....it is unbelievable how much snow the east coast is getting, especially places that aren't used to snow like DC, VA, MD etc.....Hugs, Karen
-
Well ladies all of the good thoughts and wishes worked! My BS did an ultrasound and it is SCAR TISSUE (or possibly fat necrosis as well)!!!!! He said it is nothing to worry about and this is a man that pulls no punches. The first thing that he said to me when he met me was, not hello how are you, but "I am 99.9% sure this is cancer and I will be shocked if it comes back as anything else". Needless to say he was not shocked last year. I have grown to adore him and, obviously, trust him with my life. Anyway I am also doing the happy dance and sending out the best of wishes for anyone finding themselves in "The Waiting Room". This BC journey can be absolute torture and just when you think you have it back together something like this comes around to remind you that there is still quicksand underneath. Enough of the negativity.....I have happy dancing to do!
