January 2010 Rads Start

Karen
for new baby.
Onc said big hooters mean more rads, so he's not surprised I experienced toxic effects.
Well he didn't say hooters, but that was the point.
He said it will heel, but I am now iffy about Vancouver.
He also said, "you are healthy" after breast exam so that was nice to hear.
-
Also....mom2acat.....aren't you done with rads? YIPPEEKAIYEA!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hey Cookiegal----glad you're "healthy"!! Your onc was okay with the sudden onslaught of your post rads SE's?
Why iffy about Vancouver? Pain? Fatigue? (if too personal, you don't need to answer!)
-
DS, he said the burns were worse than they "like to see", but cancer wise I'm good.
Vancouver I had a good airfare and then the burns showed up, so I will wait and see.
Being a spectator at the winter olympics takes a lot of stamina. You are on your feet in line for hours, and have to sometimes climb to the venues. In SLC we had to climb a very slippery snowy mountain. Just not sure I am there yet. Giving it a few more days.My nurse case manager thought it might be too much too soon. It's also a long air trip, as long a flight as Europe.
-
Well I finally received my simulation date....2/15 and I start rads on 2/16. Finally!!!! I am nervous about the tatoos because I hate hate hate needles of any kind. But I will make it through. I am ready to start so that I can finish.
Cookiegal - Wow I didnt realize it takes that much to see an event at the Winter Olympics. I could not do it in my condition. Still fatigued from chemo. If you decide to do it, I hope you are well enough to take it on.
-
Hopefully I'll find out Friday if I have to make up the 4 rads. They say yes and the next week its no. I need a definite answer!!!!
-
Cookie---interesting about "being an olympic spectator takes alot of stamina". That wouldn't have occurred to me (what you DON'T read in the travel guide books), but makes perfect sense. Hats off to you for doing SLC olympics!
Well, either way, you go to Vancouver or you decide not to, here's hoping your burns heal quickly, and your fatigue is overwith soon!
-
veggy--make the decision for them. JUST SAY NO! Seriously, though, why the confusion on their part? Should be clear...
-
scoobydoo---Whew, finally a rads date you can look forward to (sort of anyway)! The tattoos are no big deal, honest. You'll be fine! (I would like to say, since you've been through chemo, then tats will be a piece of cake for you. But since I haven't experienced chemo, I probably don't know what I'm talking about and shouldn't say anything....!!! lol)
-
OMG, so sorry about posting three, now four, times in a row! Ya'll must be totally sick of seeing my picture! I'll shut up for now.
Later!
-
5 down, 16 to go. No side effects. Tomorrow looks like a snow day.
-
Scoobydoo - I'm a BIG baby when it comes to needles and all. Tattoos are nothing. I've been through chemo and the tattoos picks are very small... not even worth saying ouch.
-
Anita
I got 9 tattoos. They are not even noticeable babe. -
4 down, 29 to go...no SE yet. They told me to expect some changes in the 2nd week.
I think about you guys, and check in here every couple of days. I never seem to have anything exciting to contribute, but my
is here.
Hugs...
-
Well I am down to the final one tomorrow. As long as we don't get a level 3 Snow Emergency I can get it done tomorrow otherwise I will finish up on Thursday. The rad onc said that my skin is doing very well. He said that based on the dose I am getting he would have expected more damage to the skin.
-
Hi Ladies,
One atomic dog is finally back.
I went to the medical oncologist for the results of my Oncotype - great news, it was 14, so no chemo for me. I left her office and went straight to the radiation oncologist to start the process there. Finally! I will have a CT scan on Friday.
Good to see that many of you are done or close to the finish line. I'm thinking healing thoughts for those of you with burns, crispyness, etc. I'm looking forward to the snow that's coming. Nothing like hunkering down with the hubby.
-
Kim09: You and me both--they can't stop us now! I grew up in NW Indiana, near Chicago, so I can handle snow, but ice is another story. I am hoping the salt trucks will be out tonight. God bless my rad techs; they get to work and they stay there through thick and thin.
Looking for sunshine...
-
My mom's update: She finished rads yesterday. No sides effects except a redness in breast area. Doctor suggested to continue ointment for about a month or so... Her onc doc wants to see her again one month after the end of radiation so we arranged an appointment with him at March 15. Today is the first day of Femara.
Now it's time for vacation!!!
Hugs to all ladies in this thread. All the best for me and my mother.

I need some advice please.
This evening will be my 8th treatment with 25 left to go. Last Friday- I went for skin check-up and am already a little pink...
Question #1: Do you think sleeping with a humidifer would help or hurt the skin during RADS?
Question #2: Besides Fatigue and Skin Burns-- Has anyone else experienced another S/E from RADS?
Funny:-- After my RAD Oncologist checked me last Friday-- She had to check someone down the hall on the TOMO machine which is a good 1/2 block away-- she always seems to do fast walking--- I was headed the same direction toward the dressing room and said to her "I'll beat you"-- Anyway we ended up running down the hallway in a race!!! I guess I must be getting my energy back after CHEMO
Have a Great Day Ladies!

Done with rads as of yesterday!
Radiation oncologist says it will take 3 months for my stomach heal, my regular oncologist says 2 weeks. I hope it won't be 3 months, but I think it's going to take longer than just 2 weeks. I'm on Kapidex for the reflux and also on a bland diet.

Mom2acat - Congratulations, and I wish you well.
Today I had my first boost (out of 7), and will be finished next week Friday. Melinda - you started one day after me, but they closed my Center for 2 days (MLK Day and Presidents' Day), so now I'm one day behind. The boosts are somewhat different, but no big deal. The skin is holding up very well and I don't expect it to get any worse. Today we have a snow blizzard so NO WORK. Nice to stay at home and watch the snow accumulate.
Loretta, I can't see how using a humidifier could be detrimental to your skin. On the contrary, a little humidity in the dry warm winter air should be good for you. And as for SE's, I have neither skin burns nor fatigue, and I'm almost finished. Seems we all respond differently.
Hugs to all, elisheva.
-
Finally doing a bit better today,
Had a funny thought, you know how you leave the food in the microwave to finish cooking after it shuts off?
That's what the week after rads was like for me. I did make it to hubby's birthday dinner, and burns are healing. Just caught off guard by the past week.
Hugs to all my DAWGS!!!!

Feb 1 / no no supine 26 9
No side effects yet

momtoacat, good for you, so glad you are through. Hope you stomach heals soon and you get much better.
gogo_xago, glad to hear your mom is finished. I know she is happy about that.
kim09, you go girl, hope all goes well tomorrow.
16 down and 17 to go, yea I am almost 1/2 through. I am still doing well, no burns nor fatigue. My skin is not even red or anything. I don't tan, so I don't see any of that either. I am using Remedy cream that they give me and I am using Dove soap. I don't know if that is making a difference or not, but I am sticking with it for now.
Good luck to everyone and may we all have mild SEs.

Cookiegal, I hope Big Red gets well soon and you get past this chapter.
Onty, hope all is going well with your TX. I know it is a good feeling to finally get started.
Debbie, you are not the only one that does several posts in a row. I am always guilty of that. Hope you are having a good evening.
precioustime, I haven't heard of any other SEs, however, my Rad Nurse always ask about stomach problems and coughing and stuff like that, but I am having none of it.
Hugs and a big Woooo Hoooo to all that will finish this week. I am so proud of everyone and jealous.
