Ya know i had a mx back in Sept for dcis. Went back wed for mammogram and ultrasound and they found a small cluster of calcifacations. So today I had the stereo needle biopsy. I was wondering ,.... do any of you worry this could dislodge some bad cells. i mean if its in situ in the ducts and you punch a huge hole thru it cannot it get out and start other problems? I asked the dr, he said in theory it could happen but the cells wouldnt be viable??? But ive seen on the net <BAD> I know... that other people have said mets havve come from these biopsies. I started the same way on the mx side. Biopsy, then lumpectomy, then MX. If this is dcis bye bye boobie. Dont want to worry anymore. Might as well match the other one that is going thru recon now. DO you all think Im overthinking this? And I shouldnt be worried??? about the biopsy spreading it i mean...... thannks

As far as the biopsy causing invasion - from what I understand, the cancer cells themselves change in order for them to become invasive. I had a core biopsy, not an excisional biopsy, and from the tissue sample invasive carcinoma was diagnosed.

Hope this helps. Also hope for B9 results for you.

I asked the same question to my doctor.  I got a very scientific answer which was well above my head, haha!  But he said that cancer in the breast is not like cancers that develop in other areas of the body.  They do not multiply faster or move to other areas in the breast or elsewhere when "disturbed".  So I wouldn't worry.  Praying for B9...

I have wondered the same thing.  I had Invasive cancer and then they did the biopsy and disturbed all of them!  I worry about that every day.   Tami

I asked my surgeon about this as well, because one of my biopsies went right through a vein.  He said that even if a DCIS cell went directly into the bloodstream it would not survive.
