This is not remotely about breast cancer, so it is totally safe to read.

I would like to serve notice to you that I have your friggin snow and don't need it. We here in the south don't do skiing, snow shoeing, cross country, ice sculptures or winter carnivals.We golf in the winter. My town just purchased a second snow plow and has run out of salt and sand.The governor has declared Henderson County a state of emergency. No power, trees crashing down.

When the first 12 inches came on Dec.18th it was sorta cool and I thought it was a true fluke. We still had that 12 inches of snow on Jan. 1st. Since then we have had a constant line-up of storms with two more already in the hopper. My daffodils are usually up on Valentine's day. Today they are poking thru 4 inches of ice looking like wrinkled shriveled up old ladies.

In order to get to my house I have to maneuver the car so it is exactly perpendicular to the tall concrete-like barricade the plow has left at the street end of the driveway. I get as far away as I can, floor the accelerator, ride up the side of the barricade, get airborne and then try to crash land in the tire ruts on my side of the driveway, push the garage door zapper, and skid out of control into the garage and hope I don't crash thru the other side. Fortunately I don't need to do this sideshow act very often because there is nowhere to go that is open. Once in a while tho it feels good to get into a warm car with interior lights since the house is dark and cold. My indoor-outdoor cat needs counseling. He sits and cries at each outside door, I let him out and he won't go. He thinks if he keeps trying, one of the doors will have summer behind it.

This Jan.my gas and electric bills were exactly twice what they were in Jan. of 09. February will be great however since the power lines are all down. I had a narrow window of opportunity just now when somebody at Duke Power mistakenly sent us a bit of juice, so I got on line and read where KerryMac is wondering where all her usual snow is. My mother in NH is wondering the same thing and my sister in Boston...

    Hi Weesa, I have the solution for you.  Go buy a big snow blower and then the snow will stop.  All your neighbors will laugh at you but at least the snow will be gone.  I purchased mine in November and we haven't had any snow.  It's like toting your umbrella around all day and the rain never comes...

    I'm so sorry.  I really really wish that I could help.  I want your snow - honestly!!  I grew up with snowy winters (in Montreal) and I love them, almost as much as when I was a kid (the exception being when I have to drive in a storm).  Now I'm in Toronto and so far this winter we've had virtually no snow.  I think there have been two snowfalls, each about 1 inch or less.  Maybe there's been another inch here or there since December but no more than that. Right now all the grass is showing and it's brown and ugly and gross.  I'm Canadian and I like snow and I want winter!!!  Can we trade?  Probably not, so here's the best I can do:

    For me:   Buried In Snow     Snow Angel   Frosty    

    And for you:   Sunny      On The Hammock    Sprinkler

    LOL!!  Welcome to our world!  Today I am starting to pack for our trip south to sunny Florida.  I hear that it may not be far enough south.  Everyone tells me how cold it is there.  Guess what?  I...don't...care!  It has to be warmer than here!  But I just know those little Floridian kids will be wearing ski jackets and snow pants.  But I will still be in the pool!!

    Oh, that was so funny I spit out my coffee. I am taking a break from shovelling - did two hours already this morning and the snow is still coming down fast and furious. It is beautiful for the first little bit, and then the novelty wears off real fast, doesn't it?

    Yes, yes it does.  Unless you are like my dh who absolutely LOVES the cold and the snow.  Yikes!

    It's my fault.  Told myself after last deep snowstorm to buy a snow blower but procrastinated and didn't.  If I had we would not have had another storm; it's still coming down.  I'm still trying to force myself to go out and start shovelling.  Probably should do like Karen and put in a couple hours now and finishe later when it stops.

    Karen, where in central NJ are you?  I'm in North Brunswick - top of central NJ.

    PIP100 I was in FL in December and we had some pretty cold days.  Hopefully yours will be better.

    Let-It-Be: Great idea, but unfortunately nobody here carries snowblowers. In fact I don't think many natives have heard of the concept. When it used to snow here it was a fraction of an inch and was melted by noon. (People would gather for lunch and discuss how pretty the snow had looked.) However, we are going out for a generator, and that should have the same effect of halting the great carolina ice age.

    Pip: I certainly hoping you are flying to Florida, not driving. Don't think anything is navigable between you and Florida.

    Weesa - that was the funniest original post I've read here in a long, long time!  I really feel for ya, sweety!  I hate snow too, even though we do have a snowblower up here in Niagara.  And if it's any consolation, there are some intermittent snowflakes falling here -- remnants of the blizzard you all are experiencing which, I have on good authority, originated in the southern U.S. (and not the great white north!).  And yes, we have a few spring bulbs which poked through in December (they didn't have any calendars available underground, obviouslyTongue out) and they all got their little green shoots frozen -- but they'll survive, and so will you!

    I am major bummed because there isn't enough snow on the low x-country trails near Seattle to go x-country skiing.  So while a gorgeous day for my bicycle ride, I feel like I am missing out big time this winter.

    I love snow.  I was born in it....during a -20F cold snap in Vermont.  And I loathe hot weather.

    Last winter, I spent over a month (33 days) x-country skiing.

    I am big time jealous!  There had better be tons next year when I am past treatment and able to do things like 3k uphill climbs on my skis.

    I was wondering today if White Pass might have some ?????

    Weesa, we are driving to Florida.  But don't worry.  We will be in our 4wheel drive truck, with snow tires!  Do you want to bet that no matter how cold it is down south that we will have our AC on?

    We have 2+ feet on the ground and it's still snowing.  Brighter days are ahead, though - my sister are I are headed to Montreal on Tuesday.  It'll be a great break from all this cold and snow!

    Oh, so funny! Christine - We were out shopping this morning and we saw Snow Blowers - my husband said it would be a great time to buy one!!

    You'd never suspect this but I am originally from northern Vermont. My father is Canadian. I have a lot of cousins living in Canada, even one in Thunder Bay.(Would not consider visiting her except in the summer.) But one gets used to the civility of playing golf in the winter... PIP--think you will be okay actually, you will be travelling down the eastern part of the state about 500 miles from me. But it didn't matter if you had a four wheel drive pickup here yesterday, people were stranded on I-26 because of tractor trailers stalled on hills--some were in their cars for 13 hours. Also, there were so many trees down on local roads and live wires you couldn't go from here to there.

    Flurries here right now. Anyway,you girls are a hoot. Thanks for having fun with me on such a wintry afternoon.Think the grocery store run is a good idea--maybe my butt will steam in public again...from my car seat warmer.

    You are too funny.   Here is BC we could really use some snow for the Olympics.  It was 15 degees (which would be 59)  here on Thursday, our spring flowers are all blooming.  We will be up at Whistler wearing shorts and t-shirts watching the winter sports(not that I am going).

    I just saw a guy walk past my window in shorts and flip flops! ha!

    Seriously, I only had to wear my winter coat for maybe 5 days this winter so far. Usually a hoodie is fine, and even then....im warming up.

    I am very sorry to say this is all my fault.  Saying that Chesapeake winters are always so short and mild, we bought a place on Maryland's eastern shore in December.  Immediately followed by major snowstorm December 19, major snowstorm two weekends ago, and storm of the CENTURY this weekend.  Also we didn't put snow tires on the car.  Leigh

    OK, I confess.  I took the Boston weather with me when I moved back to Canada in December and left behind the Cdn stuff.  Sorry about that!  I'm amazed how NY, MD, etc are being pummelled -- terrible.  Poor kitty -- and what a funny post!!

    Ok I have to laugh !!!My husband is a die heart snowmobile  guy ...bought a new model in Oct...he has used it once...and it is killing him..of course everytime there is a storm in the USA I have to inform him ...think Virginia got ablast awhile ago .. and this weekend a big one is hitting  NY..this has been a very mild winter ...anyone want to buy a snowmobile ???he he

    Sorry about the games.  Realize now that I jinxed the entire NW when I bought new goggles and gloves at a ski swap at the beginning of November.

    I saw cherry trees in bloom yesterday when I did my walk to downtown Seattle.  And of course spring bulbs everywhere.

    I was so excited that I would be able to do some x-country skiing at that point that I forgot about the jinxing factor.  My apologies.....especially to everyone living about 150 miles north of here.
