questioning not doing radiation

Options

Hi,

I've had a mastectomy, just finished chemo and am Her2nu+.  My oncologist did not have me do radiation and I'm wondering if that's corrrect.  My tumor was 6x7x8cm and I was node negative.  I read that if the tumor is larger than 5 cm...you do radiation.

What is everyone else doing?

Thanks!

Id get a second opinion with a rads onc - That was a big tumor - Do u live near a cancer center that has a specialty with BC?

    Good luck!

Yes..my doctor is supposed to be top notch.  I just e-mailed him to ask why he isn't doing it.

You should ask your doctor for this.  Only he can suggest you the right thing.

Jenn, is the doctor who told you no rads a radiation oncologist, or was that advice from your primary doc, oncologist or surgeon?  Only a rad onc is truly qualified to tell you if rads would benefit you, and even then, I'd be inclined to get two opinions, especially if you're having a gut feeling about it.  In the past, radiation was not frequently recommended to women who had mastectomies.  However, some recent research shows that there may be a benefit even with a mastectomy.

I'll try to find that reseach, which I think was out of Sweden or Denmark, if I'm not mistaken, and will add a link here if I can find it.     Deanna
