Surgeon called after MRI with new "spots"
Anyone have this happen? Surgeon called me with results of MRI. Saw a couple of spots on the breast, and want to schedule me for an ultrasound to further investigate these. She says 20% chance it's something more of the cancer. Doesn't necessarily mean it's "agressive" cancer.
I am speechless and hoping this doesn't mean the news will just get worse....

Remember MRI's are famous for seeing things that are benign. I had one and it overestimated my DCIS by almost 2cm. They can be accurate and they can be wrong. I would not worry too much.
Hoping for some good news..
let us know how the ultrasound goes

Well, that sucks. I do remember reading someone else saying their MRI turned up some spots that turned out to be nothing and it can be common. Hoping that is true for you. Hope you are able to get in for an ultrasound quickly and get it resolved.

Hi, Marianna; this happened to me. It was irrelevant, since I was planning mastectomies, but after the mri turned up a hot spot in addition to the tumor they knew about, I asked for an ultrasound to further investigate. If I'd been planning lumpectomy, they would have done a core biopsy.
Anyway, it was nothing, probably scar tissue from a long ago needle aspiration. Since I had mastectomies, they were able to look thoroughly. I had DCIS and LCIS along with my invasive parts, but it was not either of those.
I hope this helps; warmest hopes for good outcome.

Oops, forgot to mention--unfortunately, the ultrasound was not conclusive. That's why I'd have had to have another core biopsy if I'd been planning anything less than mastectomy. It's a one step at a time thing--and you want as much info as possible so that you get the best treatment for what you have.
So, even if you have to take another step after this one, which is possible but not likely, know that it's in your best interest to be very thorough, and that's a sign that you are in very good hands!

I'm someone who has recently posted about MRIs and the stuff that can show up. In my case, it wasn't spots on my breast but spots on my liver and my thyroid. I did have to have a CAT scan and a biopsy on my thyroid but everything turned out negative.
Don't panic yet. MRIs just show more. Hang in there.

I've been debating about whether or not to post this b/c I know how scary it is, but with everyone posting their scare and benign results, well, I felt I had to be honest and tell you that unfortunately, sometimes the MRI does detect more cancer.
I had one area detected & biopsied on mammo, then I had an MRI. The MRI also detected the first area, but also found a second area which did not show up on mammo. It was biopsied and confirmed as DCIS, very similar to the first area but without comedonecrosis (so no calcs in the second area, so nothing which would show on mammo).
Neither of the two areas showed on ultrasound.
Take as much comfort as possible in the 80% chance that it's a false positive. But, if it IS more nasty stuff, try to be glad you caught it now rather than later.
Wishing you benign results.
