Hi Everyone,

Hoping that I can get some insight around the Gamma Knife procedure. I'm scheduled for the procedure this Weds to go after my breast cancer mets to my brain. Radiation I'm used to, but not having 4 screws put into my head to keep it still.  Any experiences with Gamma Knife would be appreciated!  Thanks so much. 

P.S. Also have bursitus (spell?) in my shoulder! They shoot horses don't they? LOL

    Hi Birki,

    sorry no experience to offer - there are some ladies here with brain mets and they should be along sometime to share their experiences - I just wanted to say hi and wish you the best - this sounds scary - are you also getting systemic treatment as well - just saw Tykerb and Femara combination has been approved - is this relevant for you???

    Hi Fidelia -

    I appreciate your response.  I am currently on Herceptin, Tykerb and Xeloda for my brain mets. Most of the tumors are shrinking, but 3 have grown just slightly so those are the ones they want to destroy (hopefully) with the Gamma Knife procedures.  This site is so helpful. Plus I get to talk to such wonderful, kind, understanding women who have been through it all.  Thanks again!!!

    You might want to post this in the Stage IV forum.  There are many women there who have brain mets who might have some experience with this procedure.  Good luck to you.

    Hi Birki,

    I saw the one at the Swedish Brain Center here is Seattle when I was invited on a lecture/tour two weeks ago.  This was conducted by one of the top brain cancer surgeons in the country.  This is absolutely the best option provided that the tumor is less than 2cm.  Just zap and gone!

    Having this procedure available is so much easier on the patient as non-invasive, so minimal recovery time.  It is also extremely effective.

    I am so sorry about your brain mets and will pray that the Cyber Knife knocks them out of your system forever.  Definitely the way to go with your particular situation.  Good luck and major hugs. - Claire
