Grades?
I know about the stages but what are the "grades"?

Grade 1, 2, 3.
Grade 3 being the most aggresive, fastest dividing cells. Most, not all, breast cancers are grade 3.
-
ah, is it written in any report, like pathology?
-
should be
-
This is what I got from Dr Susan Love's web site.
"The tumor's grade is based on how abnormal its cells appears to a pathologist examining then under the microscope. In a Grade 1 tumor, the cells look like breast cancer but their structures can still be identified. A Grade 2 tumor has cells that are starting to look a bit abnormal. Grade 3 indicates that the cells are very abnormal looking and cant't be identified as even having been breast cells to begin with."
Lexislove is correct....grade 3 is thought of as more aggressive.

Grade 3 is also called poorly differentiated. Yes, grade 3 is the most aggressive but I'm not sure about the statement above that MOST breast cancers are grade 3.
-
blondiex..Yes I got the info from my BS, but oncologist gets the same results. Just ask them.
Good Luck.

just read the pathology report again and no "grade", is it something I need to know?
-
When is your next doctor's appt.? Ask him.
-
good idea will do the 27th of Jan.
-
read this link from bco.org - it should help you understand when you find out your grade
http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/path_report/the_cancer/grade.jsp
Trish
EDITED TO ADD - you might find this on your pathology report as well "Bloom-Richardson scale" - it should show you how your tumor is graded
-
I read it again and nope nothing and the Bloom Richardson scale thing is not there, I will definately ask him, thanks

Went to the drs. today and he said that he doesn't know the grade that it wasn't on the report...he would say that it was low grade like a 2...I was shocked, thought it was a 3.

Sandy --
are u sure the path report doesn't state the GRADE ??? Instead of looking for the word GRADE
--- look for something like this ...... 6/9 or 8/9 ( the grading syst only goes up to a 9 ) OR look for something like this ( roman numerals ) I/III or II/III this would represent Grade 1 off a Grade 3 scale ( I/III )
let us know if u see any of this stuff
-
nope just looked and the onoc couldn't find it either. Thanks for asking!!
-
Hi, if your tumor is ILC its not graded usually (ILC more common in postmenopausals)...Vb
-
he said it didn't see it on the report nad neither did I
