Hello ladies,

Anyone out there experience hardness/lumpiness areas after a lumpectomy?  I had a 9 cm mass removed and the area above and below it are really hard, is this normal before I call my Dr....Surprised

I had a lumectomy also... almost a year ago.  The area above and below it are STILL hard.  My doc told me it was scar tissue... that all was well.    Peace and health to you.    Tami

Please check with your dr.   I see you are still quite soon after surgery so it may well be swelling or scarring associated with the surgery...BUT... I found what I thought was a lump several months after surgery, called my BS...he saw me straight away, himself & not one of the junior doctors (ie it was taken quite seriously).  Turns out it was just the edge of the breast plate that had not been removed, was more apparent after the swelling went down.  But because he took it very seriously I think this is something you should get checked out.  There's always a chance of recurrence or progression (or that something has been missed) and that needs to be ruled out.

I had a lumectomy January 8/10 and I have some lumpiness as well as redness and swelling.  I went back to the surgeon and I do not have an infection (no fever) but the swelling etc is due to fluid retention which apparently can happen when you have sentinal nodes removed.  I only had two removed...but regardless, I've got the swelling and hard lumpy feeling.  My nipple seems to be dimpling as well.  I was told to massage my breast and it should help to dissipate things and I can tell you that it seems to be helping. But I'm still a bit nervous about it... but hey...what can you do?  LOL
