Mercury fillings...

Options

The more I read about how toxic mercury is, and that my mouth is full of them, It makes me wonder if many of my problems stem from this.

I know I have swallowed mercury at the dentist office before.

Can it ever leave your body. If you can't afford to have all of the metal taken out, how do you rid yourself of this?

Anyone?

It makes me sick that this is so toxic and used to be used so regurlarly!!!

Here's a link to an article about Mercury safety:

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/07/090730090438.htm

Interesting that the FDA raised the level of concern from Level 1 to a Level 2:

Today's regulation also reclassifies the mercury component of dental amalgam from Class I (low risk) to Class II (moderate risk).

I wonder how regulatred the mercury was when I fillings back in the late 60's? Frown

Here's a link to the FDA web site with info about mercury:

I don't know - and I worry that REMOVING my mercury fillings will just "stir up the dust" - sort of like "you're damned if you do and damned if you don't".........like trying to remove the PCPs at the bottom of the Hudson River. Some studies suggest it's safer to just leave them buried there......but as an investment for the future health of the river, most scientists are pushing for total removal. But don't start me on PCPs and how prevalent they are in our society - it's sooo scary!

I take chlorella for mercury detoxing. It is a natural alternative to DMSA, which is a pill that docs give to take the mercury out of our bodies. The chlorella takes longer to work, but it is not a drug. This website gives some info about detox from mercury using chlorella.

There are holistic dentists who can safely remove mercury fillings.  Here is the web site to check out the mercury free dentists in your area:

If you are in the Seattle/Tacoma area, I know a great holistic dentist, who takes good care of cancer patient's dental need.  He has the right equipment to safely remove amalgam (mercury) fillings.  His practice is Advanced Dental Care, on Tacoma Mall Blvd.

deni63. Thanks for the info. It says you should know your mercury levels first? How did you find out yours or what were your symptoms?

gscott-my naturopath did a heavy metal test. They send you home with a DMSA pill and a jug to gather urine. You then have to take the pill and collect urine at intervals throughout the day. Then, you send the jug to the lab and they analyze all of the heavy metals. My test came back with high mercury levels and high lead levels. The doctor said the lead is high as a result of the mercury being high. I have a history of migraines, but they have greatly improved since I changed my diet after dx. So, I don't know if the mercury was/is causing them. I don't think I really have symptoms other than that. I am taking 10 50mg chlorella pills per day to help detox the mercury as the chlorella binds with the mercury and removes it from your system. It takes time though. I read that it can take up to 4 years to detox from mercury. The doc recommended having my mercury fillings removed by a holistic dentist, which I will do, but he said to wait until things are a bit more stable with the BC, etc. There is a lot going on right now!

Please be very careful if you have amalgams removed.  A regular dentist removing amalgams can cause you much more harm than good.  Find a dentist who is a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, and preferably Huggins Certified.  You'll want to make sure they use ionizing technology and rubber dams to protect both you and them.  Ask what forms of chelation therapy they use.  When I had mine removed three years ago, the dentist I used did high-dose vitamin C chelation.

Ironically, I talked to a dental surgeon this morning about having a root canal removed.  Root canals can be huge, enclosed cess pools.   He suggested that I have a dental scan prior to committing to removing the root canal.

I had a root canal about 28 years ago. How in the world do you get this removed? WOW! It's so frustrating when you pay all of that money years ago just to realize you may have caused more problems and now back peddling to fix the problems!

Who has money to do this? I know I don't!

I thought it was very odd though that when I went to the dentist 2 years ago because my mercury filling was chipped. They put in more and I felt sick for weeks...This outrages me!

I had a root canal filled tooth extracted recently (in addition to having 11 mercury fillings removed and re-filled with a composite).  All this was done by a holistic dentist.  The extraction of the root canal tooth in itself was not expensive.  However, it's what you have to do afterwards that gets costly.  I had a bridge done, which was horribly expensive.  If the extracted tooth were at the very back of my mouth, I would have just left the space empty (no risk of shifting teeth behind it).  Unfortunately, mine was the 1st molar and I also have all 4 of my wisdom teeth....so too much forward moving  pressure to not fill the gap.  All my dental work has been done in the past 2 months (the extraction only 2 weeks ago).  As of yet, I can't report any major differences/improvements in how I feel, but I am glad I got rid of all the mercury!
