Hey everyone:)

So my mom has finished her AC and now has just started Taxol.  She is experienceing bone pain from this and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that helps.  She doesn't like to take the pain meds, and I know some of you have tried a lot of different things so I was wondering if anyone can help?

Thanks

Nicole

I am on Taxol too and I experience all over body aches for a few days only.  I have been taking the pain meds they gave me, but they also make me feel strange.  Of course, the LAST thing I want to become is dependent on pain pills and I can see it could easily happen.  I am certainly enjoying the ativan now and then.

I am also having sinus issues, headaches and fatigue.  I want to try the Claritin and maybe it will make life more comfy for me.  Thanks for sharing.

I didn't realize my nails would turn black or fall off with Taxol too.  I have had 4 weekly IV's of Taxol so far and I am still getting my nails filled with acrylics without any issues.  They are still very pink.  I have been having my nails done for 20 years so if I see any complications I will deal with it, but until then...I just keep them french style and very short.  I am bald and that stresses me enough... I want to keep these faux nails for as long as I can manage it without issues.

I heard some of the stronger chemos could make nails brittle and the nail beds darkened, but fall off too... eeek and ouch!...

I heard about the icing too... My ONC said no way Hosea... no icing of my head to try and prevent hair loss... no icing of nails period... I have bone mets and they want the drug to get to all my bones and the icing stops circulation of the chemo so it doesn't go to the cold bone areas... that might just be my circumstance so if you aren't bone mets... I can't see the same concerns for you.

I do know the hair icing didn't work for one of my local BC friends who had stage 2, no mets.  She is as bald as me now so it didn't work... She is doing the nail icing too but we have different ONC practices.  She puts frozen peas bags on her toes and wears 2 sets of gloves in between the layers she puts little crushed ice baggies during the time she has her IV drips.  She did all 4 cycles and her nails weren't affected.

I wonder if the nail thing is another one of those... "side affects that could occur"...

I do know that since stopping the Avastin combo with my Taxol I 'feel' way better even on my worst days.  I just hope the Taxol still packs the whammy I need it too.

    Take Care... MzJoy

Hi Nicole.  I had 4 treatments of Taxol and Nuelasta shot. I finished my last treatment Oct.26.  I felt great for two days and then wham by day three my bones all over my body were killing me.  It only lasted for three days.  I also took Clariten before I took the Nuelasta shot after my 3rd chemo treatment and it did help a little. Have your mom ask her Oncologist before taking it.  Other than that I just took advil.  Also, tell your mom to rest, rest, rest on those days.  Pain wears you out.  How is your mom doing?

Also if I can just add a question here.  My hair is growing back ALL over my body. Yippee!! I didn't realize our bodies are so hairy.  Has any one noticed peach fuzz all over their faces?  What can I do about this? Keep us posted on your mom!  Jewels

Bone Pain, I was on Tamoxifen and the pain was so tremendous that I would hug my son and just cry.  I did take the meds, Morphine (small amount), twice a day, Gabapentin, and Tramadol.  Somtimes I was a little spaced out but it was SO MUCH BETTER than the terrible bone pain.  I just have never felt anything like that pain, no even childbirth!

I have TAC chemo (6) with nuelasta shots after each one. The bone pain was horrific for me. I took pain pills during chemo because the pain was unbearable and I had to work.  No one ever told me about the clariton, wish I had known about that. About six of my nails did fall off, but when it did it was painless and there was already a new nail underneath it. Weird!
