Big toenail oozing ick and blood, can any help?
Today I was just sitting down and I noticed puss oozing from under my big toenail. I took a wipe to it and then it started to bleed. You know those lovely toenails that chemo leaves you with and then Herceptin doesn't help them. I have been trimming them as best I can but this problem just started today. Any ideas? I was way down in the southern zone this past week and thought I saw a little bitty bug crawl up there one evening. I know, gross! Thanks for any help and God Bless, Kathy

Kathy - Please call your doctor. I just don't want it to get infected. If it all ready is infected you will need antibiotics. Since I have not had problems with my toenails I can't give you any help. Please, please call your oncologist.
Best wishes for healing!

Infection, it sounds like. You couldn't feel it most likely if you have neuropathy.
Soak it in warm-to-hot (but not too hot!) Epsom salt water. Cover it. And call your doctor!!!!! GP or oncologist. Or go to urgernt care. Don't delay in getting it looked at!

I agree. Call you doctor. Get your toe checked asap.
Chemo can do terrible things to our toenails and fingernails.

Thank you so much. We are keeping it clean and using antibiotic spray and bactine for tonight and if not completely better in the morning, I will head to the clinic. I just hate to go to the doctor when I already have to see them often enough. I know you all know what I mean. God Bless

It may not be true for you, but soaking my feet in warm water with Epsom salts made my big toes much more inflamed. Taxol last year and more recently Xeloda have caused me to have problems with my big toes. Swollen, red, sometimes oozing, bleeding. VERY sore. Also the Xeloda caused ingrown toenalls on the big toes. That really hurts! I have been off the Xeloda for about 2 weeks and they are already getting some better.

Thanks Faith, my toe looks better today and I am keeping disinfected and covered when out and about. Will keep a close eye on it. Thanks again and God Bless
