What kind of follow-up is/are your doctors recommending when "check-up" time comes---meaning, when it is time for evaluation of remaining breast, what is their recommendation, MRI? Diagnostic mammogram and proceed from there based on results?  Ultrasound?

Thanks.

My remaining breast has "extremely dense" breast tissue so because of that, the radiologist where I get my mammos recommended that I get MRIs as well.  So I get one of each per year, alternating every 6 months.   If not for the dense breast tissue, I probably would be having annual mammos only.  Note however that for the first couple of years after my diagnosis, I was on a 6 month mammo schedule and only after that moved to the annual schedule.

I have also been alternating between the mammogram and MRI one every 6 months.  No one has indicated at what point that may change for me .

I have to get a mammo in August, which would be one year since I had a mammo and MRI on the remaining breast. My BS said that the older you get, the less dense the breast become and therefore, the more accurate the mammo. 'Thought that was interesting.

I was told annual mammo's only...on the remaining breast with bi-annual visits to either the surgeon or the onc. doctor.
