Ooph?

I went for a checkup with my BS (actually, with his PA) two weeks ago, and she suggested having an oophorectomy (sp?).  Since my tumor wasn't hormone positive, I didn't know that this would be recommended.  Have any other TN's either had this done or had it recommended to them?

Thanks for your help!

I've never heard of that for TN's.  Are you BRCA positive?

No, I'm not - that's what has me so confused.  I don't know if it was recommended because of my age at dx (45) or some other reason.  I've emailed my BS for clarification, but haven't heard back yet.

I am also TN, but also BRCA 2+. That was the only reason I had a hysterectomy w/BSO. Is there a family history of ovarian cancer?

    Hi to all,

I recently had the BRCA testing done. Of course I will be waiting on my results until Feb 11th. I talked with my onc PA about an Ooph too. She said in NO WAY would they want me to have one if my testing does not come back positive. Now if its positive out those offending ovaries go, but if its negative I will do the happy dance, cause I am sure not ready for any more stinkin surgery! The PA told me ovaries play a very big part in a womans body, from skin health to other more personal stuff if ya know what I mean! LOL I don't want to loose any more of my mojo than I already have to da%n cancer. So I agree with idaho, ask lots of questions because that just does not sound right to me either!

    XOXO,

    Regina

I talked with my BS's nurse this morning, and she said that she hadn't heard of ooph being recommended for hormone negative bc either.  I'll talk to my BS about it at my next appt. in July, but now I'm thinking that the PA just let that slip before she really looked at my file.  Whew!  I really wasn't looking forward to any more surgery at this point.

My surgeon and onco both wanted me to have an ooph.  I am BRCA 2+ and it can cause ovarian cancer.  Had the surgery about 2 months after my last radiation treatment.  At least now I don't have to worry about ovarian cancer.  Glad I did it.
