frustrated and a little impatient
Hi,
I'm 31 and am concerned with a bruise-like spot I've had on my breaast now for at least 3 months now (can't remember when I first discovered it). I thought it was a bruise, but when it didn't change at all over the course of 2 months I decided I should make an appointment with my family physician. She conducted a clinical breast exam and wasn't discovering anything that felt abnormal, but agreed that the spot on my breast was unusual. There's no lump or pain associated with this spot, no discharge, no scaling...it's just a 1 by 2 inch ovally spot. Anyway, she referred me to a clinic for an ultrasound and mammogram. I was told the day of the mammogram/utlrasound that they didn't see anything unusual and asked if my doctor discussed any other tests, like a skin culture. I called my doctor a few days later thinking she would have received the results of the tests. I wanted to find out what my next step should be...no reply. A week later, I finally hear from them and they still don't have the results. They're "working" on it, but in the meantime I'm freaking out a little. I'm sure it's something as simple as a inflammation, but the longer it hangs around the more I get concerned. A friend of mine gave me a phone number for her breast oncologist specialist and I ended up making an appointment (2 weeks away). In the meantime though, I'd still like to follow up with the family doctor. I'm sweating it as to whether I should cancel the appointment with the specialist? Should I see a dermatologist? Has anyone out there had this kind of redness with no other symptoms?

It doesn't take a week for mammogram or ultrasound results. Ridiculous. Although it probably isn't anythng, having it biopsied wouldn't hurt. Either go see the breast oncology specialist or even your dermatologist who can also do a punch skin biopsy. Let us know what you find out.

Hi Sugasweet,
Why don't you keep your appointment in two weeks with the breast cancer oncologist. This is not to suggest this is cancer, but that they tend to have wide experience, including evaluation for persistent bruising on the breast.
There's a two week rule many of us try to utilize in knowing when to ring the do something bell: if it persists after two weeks or so, go on in and let it be fully attended too.
I'm glad you found this site, and hope you'll get the help you need and let us know how your doing.
My best to you,
Tender
