Spring,
I can't get the Sketchers page to link, did something wrong & not messing with it anymore. They show them at sketchers.com. I got the Shape-ups Action Packed pink/grey ones.
They were $100 but I had a gift card for $75, so got 'em for $25 plus tax at Younkers.
-
I tried on the Sketchers, they weren't bad. They are more expensive here, on sale $145, still think I will get a pair. Some girls are wearing them at work and liking them.
Have a great week everyone.
-
Got home on Friday and did another mile on the treadmill! Felt great. Took off Saturday but managed to do the cow pose that day!! heehee
DH left for the week yesterday and in came the wind and rain (watch out east coast there are storms lined up through the week), so I did a great 2 miles on the treadmill and some more floor work and lots of stretching (I'm with ya Brenda on the good stretching!), then did a lot of cleaning. Today lounged and watched a movie in bed all morning, but now time to finish the cleaning and get some more workout in.
kmmd, thanks for the reminder about overtraining! My DD is training for a half marathon, she's not a runner by any means, but she has been telling me about their training methods, which sound smart!!
Enjoy the rest of your Monday girlies!

I bought a pair of the sketchers yesterday and walked 4 miles in them today and loved them. They are expensive 100 in Las Vegas. but like someone else I had a gift card. They are definately not the prettiest sneakers around, but hopefully they work. Enjoy the rest of your Monday all.

Three questions on the sketchers:
1. Are they safe on snow and icy sidewalks
2. Can you drive with them.
3. Where can I get a gift certificate?
-
vivre
I live in Las Vegas and usually do not have snow, we are having lots of rain this week. I did not drive with them, just walked around my block 8 times in the rain. I had a gift card for the mall which is what I used. Where do you live?

Walked 2 miles a day on the weekend, and Yoga. today just Yoga - had a Dr. appt that threw me off schedule!
I looked up the Sketchers - I see the "rolling" action on the bottom!!! I think I'll tyr them in the store and spin around and see what they feel like!
-
Hey Spring - are you enjoying this weather as much as I am? How is it with you Harley? I worked today and enjoying a quiet evening at home with the Dd. Start 2nd shift on Tuesday. There is another kind of shoe like Sketchers but can't remember who makes them. Suppose to be in the 60's again on Tuesday. I love this weather better than what we had last week!
-
Just to stay in touch: Worked out a good hour yesterday morning then did gentle yoga for 30 minutes last night to help me prepare for what I thought might be a difficult work (Mon)day (it was). I also got my butt out of bed at 5:45am AGAIN (do I really want this to be a habit?) this morning and worked out for 30 minutes.
A question about these Sketchers: Are they heavy? I tried on some of the athletic shoes that are horribly expensive and have the "rolling soles" (can't remember the brand name) but they felt heavy and strained my knees. I am always looking for that magical pair of shoes that will help me to just walk and walk and walk!
-
Big Hi to everyone!
When I tried the Sketchers, I did not find them heavy at all. One of my co-workers thinks they are so... I guess it depends. I really think I am going to get them as the new pair of runners I got for work just aren't doing it for me, my heel keeps hurting (heels hurting can't be from all the weight I gained!) Working on that weight, started back on the P90X, gonna stay with it if it kills me.
Later.
-
I don't find the Sketchers heavy either. I have a pair of Merrills (my summer tennis shoes) that are heavier.
I wouldn't wear them on snow or ice, I'm a boot person in that crap! Haven't worn them driving yet as I just got them & still wear boots or winter shoes in this MI snow, but I plan to.
vivre ~ I suppose if you sent a belated Christmas list wish up to the north pole, you might get a gift certificate sent your way?!? LOL I got mine from my DD for Christmas.
I'm still liking them & glad I purchased them.
Edited to add that I think the shoes are heavy when you pick them up to look at/put on, but when you have them on to walk, they seem just like any other pair of shoes. There are workout shoes that are lighter in weight, but I really didn't notice it while I walked.
-
hmmm.... the Sketchers sound really cool... but... are they just for walking? can you run in them? and they are SO expensive... don't know if I could afford them. My dh is sold on ASICS gel running shoes. I buy them too when I can. They go on sale now and then, when they switch models out, and I usually can get a deal on them.
sobx,
I'm doing pretty good. Loving the warmer weather! I had to work yesterday, so didn't get any exercise in... plus, I may have overdid it earlier, I was feeling kind of achy and sore, so I took a day off. But, I'll be back out again later today. I used to walk and I may walk faster than I run, but it seems like I finish faster if I run. So.... I've been running. Only problem is that I can only do about 2 miles when I run. If I walk, I can go further, but it takes me forever....
If I thought the Sketchers would help me to walk further, I'd mortgage my house to buy a pair!

Joy and Harley, my NC Sisters!!! I took a 2 mile walk today over lunch with no coat! at all!!!
Gotta love this weather on Jan 19!!! Though, the tide could turn and we'll be freezing again in no time. SO ENJOY NOW!!!
Studio Yoga tonight! My second since back from surgery. I noticed lots of tummy healing this last week.
Hope you are all well!

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California
But girl don't they warn ya
It pours, man it poursKari & Alllie ~ Are you singing along?
Actually, this morning was just very foggy (rare for here), but I had an early a.m. commitment, so didn't have time to walk. Assuming the prediction for continuing storms is correct, I'll be dusting off the HealthRider and elliptical later today. But that's okay because all this rain means our Spring wildflowers, which we don't get without these January storms, will be glorious.
Still waiting to hear how my MIL, who lives in MN and over the weekend ran off the road into a ditch, is doing. She wasn't physically hurt, but her occasionally memory lags seem to have taken on an ominous dimension, as she thought for awhile she was hospitalized in Colorado, and seemed to have lost the past 25 years. Thank goodness she was coming around quite a bit yesterday, but we're now in that unenviable position of needing to re-evaluate her independence, ability to drive safely, etc. She's the epitome of strong-willed, and @ 82 thinks nothing of jumping in the car and driving 2,000 miles to see a friend, so any loss of independence would be devastating for her.
Gotta run.. Hi to all ... Deanna
-
HI ladies! Harley, you crack me up! I used to just do the elliptical with music until they put the machines in at the gym with the tv.
There are another kind of Sketchers (my MIL has some--I think the original co that made them) but I can't remember the name. I don't know if you can run in them--I want to say no. I've they don't "corner" that well--meaning work better just moving forward. But I want to go try some on...
Joy, how wonderful to have a free massage!!! I am dying for one but keep reminding myself yoga is almost as good...
I did 2 miles on the elliptical yesterday and did some yoga afterward--just at home. Felt great although am still out of shape on the elliptical. Have access to Netflix on the computer so watched a History channel show. kari--thought of you when doing some cat/cow!!
Ainm--stay warm!! And you ladies getting up at 5:45 to exercise are my heroes!! I always have to drag myself out of bed so have always been an afternoon exerciser...
I felt draggy all last week but am going to try a week without dairy and see if that helps. I have been eating more cheese and butter lately--so I packed the rest of the Christmas cookies in the freezer (didn't have the heart to throw them out) and am going to eat better this week and see if that helps...
Have a good one ladies!! We are braving the monsoons here in Nor Cal--all week from what I hear. Just back from the dog park--I laughed; the only ones out there were the Lab owners since our crazy dogs love the water!!
-
It is gorgeous here. No jackets!!! Working nights for the next 2. Off Thurs/Fri. I am now a year older, hope that makes me wiser. Did nothing on the b'day. Dd and I had dinner and I drank a glass of wine. Hope everyone is getting this good weather. I've taken a few days off but go to yoga on Wed and looking forward to it. Joy
-
Allie
Thanks for the info. about Sketchers. I guess I'll just keep on wearing ASICS... if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
oh, and I think I'd rather listen to music than watch tv. I get interested in the show, and don't want to finish my exercise... lol
Springtime and Joy...
I've been lazy today... I guess since I'm not working today... but I'll go out in a few minutes to get some sunshine and exercise.
Joy,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! and MANY MORE!!
Harley
-
I don't usually put too much out there about myself, but today I am 58 years old!!
And a very happy birthday to Joy!!!
Hugs to all! Have a great day!
-
Val,
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Happy Bday Val Jean and also to Joy (belated)!!!
You ladies made it to another year! Woot! Nothing we take for granted!
I am happy there are so many Yogis here now!!!!!!
Deanna, Yikes about Mom. Losing 25 years? Holy cow!!! I would be unmarried, or newly married! Yikes....
-
Happy Happy Happy Birthday to Joy & Val!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think of all of us singing the birthday song to you and SMILE!!!!!!!!!!
Deanna, yes indeed singing that song. What a crazy couple of days so far with the WIND/RAIN! It was like a frickin hurricane here! Did NOT sleep well, so no getting up at dark thirty for me (and yes Brenda, I thought of you and felt guilty), and my coworker called in sick, so I worked through lunch and I'm pooped. Little over an hour and a half to go, then I have to get some groceries on the way home. Just want to sleep! So tonight will just be yoga, NO walking, I feel I'm pushing too hard. Scary about your MIL!!!!!!!
Ok, back to work. xoxo
-
Happy Birthday Valjean
Did a power yoga/pilates routine today. Wow, My legs shaking tonight
-
Val & Joy - Happy Birthday!!!! Hope you both have wonderful days and enjoy yourselves.
Well he noticed (my onc) the weight loss - complemented me, said I looked well and assured me that in addition to being an advantage in the fight against recurrence that it may also be an advantage against developing heart problems & diabetes.
It was quite a cursory check up - basic - he checked the remaining breast, tapped down my spine, listened to my chest but basically said fine - go to my BS next and then back to him in May. My mammo result hadn't found its way to him yet although the radiologist had told me he would have it (I saw him 4 hours after getting it done), so they are to phone me with that, but I asked if anything looked suspicious and the radiologist said it all looked fine to her. So now I guess I had better just get use to these visits and not get so anxious.
He did ask me had I thought about reconstruction and I said it was something that I would like to discuss so he said that my BS might talk about it at my next visit but in the meantime to give it some thought - as if I haven't already!!!
While I was there the receptionist asked me to fill out a questionnaire regarding my experience of their Oncology Liaison Service as they needed patient feedback so that they would know how to improve the service - I explained to her that I didn't realise they had such a service!!!! That kinda answered that questionnaire fairly well!! It should certainly show up the fact that the patient (me) wasn't even made aware of the service!!!
1 year post mx today!!!
Deanna - hope your MIL continues to improve. I have some experience of the kind of time loss you described with my own mother but it is due to dementia. Can be very frustrating for both of us at times.
Ladies - keep up the exercise (with or without the Sketchers!!!) Now I have to keep motivated to keep losing weight and to continue exercising - what will I make my next goal!!! I really hope I can stay motivated!!!
Maybe I'll sleep tonight now that I'm beyond those anniversaries. Love to All and thanks for listening.
-
Holy man, lots of stuff today, hope I don't miss anything. Here we go...
Joy and Val Happy Birthday with many returns to come!
Deanna- I am glad to hear your MIL was not seriously hurt. Watching our parents get older and go through that is very distressing.
Ainm, congrats congrats congrats, so glad your onc noticed! Sorry you were not made aware of their added service. The cancer centre here has a similar service, didn't use it but at least I knew it was there if needed.
To all those crazy cooters getting up before 6 to exercise- thbbbb (tongue sticking out making rude noises) I am too getting up at that unGodly hour but alas not to exercise but to get up to get ready for work! Like getting home early though, we have started exercising again, amazing home much better I feel after only a few sessions.
Hubbies mid life crisis purchase comes tomorrow- he is getting a Toyota Tacoma (not sure if I already told you all this)
Spring, you always talk of doing gentle yoga, are you doing this at home? If so can you recommend a DVD for gentle yoga for dummies? Would like to do more but not sure which DVD to get as I am not what one would call coordinated so don't want a difficult one but an effective one, does that make sense
Okay, better go start supper, DS went snowboarding today and will be home soon, tired and hungry!
Have a great day everyone.
-
Ainm,
Glad your onc noticed your weight loss! Funny, but last time I saw my onc, he tapped my spine, too! I asked him if it ever answered... He just laughed!
I also do yoga, but I think I was not doing it 'gentle' enough, and I'd get sore, and end up quitting... I try to hold the poses correctly, and for a longer time...

Happy Birthday dear Val! Hope the sun was shining up there for you. We had a heatwave today. It was above freezing so I did not even need my gloves or polar bear suit for my walk. I wore my BROWN coat! WHOOHOOO, thank you Massachusetts! Now I am hell bent on going after the ONE seat in IL. I am motivated big time!
Oh, and my birthday is next week too. I am really ready to celebrate. Maybe I can even get someone around here to get me a gift certificate for those skeechy things!
I am off to take my happy magnesium bath. It has been a very good day. Wish I had some champagne.
-
Thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes! I had a great day after I got rid of the terrible headache I woke up with this a.m. Did not work out because of that-I'm a morning person. Had dinner at my DD's-yummy! Talked to my little grandchildren. Because I did not (shame, shame) have a tea party today (!) for my birthday, I am invited to a tea party with my gr-dau. for her b-day in March. That. will. be. fun.
vivre ~ love the BROWN coat comment! Good one!! But, I think you left the second "e" off Massachusetts. LOL LOL
Deanna ~ Hope your MIL is improving.
Ainm ~ That is wonderful that your onc noticed your weight loss. You have worked so hard, you deserve the praise & to be acknowledged for your effort. There is so much motivation here, I feel guilty not doing anything & showing up here to just read. I'd gotten off track for a while, but have gotten back on since I returned here. Not speeding by any means, but between the rails at least.
pk ~ good Q on the DVD for gentle yoga for dummies, I would like to try that also. What say you, Spring?
Well, off to bed,
sweet dreams everyone

Val
Belated Happy Birthday!
kfinnigan
I am not sure where Lincoln is, but we, Las Vegas, will be getting what you had later today. We are supposed to get last year's rain equivalent this week. It is much needed, but driving in it is horrible.
I go see PS this morning for my infection, hopefully I'll be cleared. I am hoping he will clear me for other exercise, like Zumba. I go to the gym down the street for it and it is so much fun. Anyone else Zumba?
-
Thanks for the well wishes for my b'day. Val - we are the same age.
Ainm - I read somewhere that you need to do something special on the anniversary days and that will ease the fear. Glad the ONC noticed and you are doing sooo good.
I am going to a training for "Road to Recovery" for cancer patients to help others go through this lovely trip we are taking. Ought to be interesting. I've learned a lot just from this thread that the doctors never told me.
Another pretty day but the rain is coming in tonight. Sorry ya'll have the bad rains out west but you didn't have to send it to the east. At least it is suppose to stay in the 50's. Going to yoga before work. Have a great day and if it wasn't for ya'll I would have given up long ago. The comments and suggestions have helped me so much. Roomate from college is planning on coming to visit next week. She is from NM. Love ya

Joy
yes, it is BEAUTIFUL outside today! Nice and warm!! I may go out and try a longer walk/run...
Ainm,
I get nervous about recurrence, and scared too...
Hope everyone is doing well.
