PORT REMOVAL

Hi there, has anyone who has gotten their port removed still have a lump underneath their scar line as if the port is kind of still there?  I got my port removed on 1/4/10 after having it for a little over a year and I was taking Prednisone at the time for lung issues.  I wanted to postpone the procedure because of hindering healing and risk of infection with prednisone and now it is two weeks later and my incision is still not healed --- but more concerned because it feels like there is a lump, maybe muscle or scar tissue where the port was.  Can anyone tell me if this is normal, not the inability to heal, but the lump underneath the skin where the port was.  Thanks to ALL.  Joy

    Hi there,

I have the opposite of you, I have an indentation. If I press where my port was, I can feel it. But to sight, I just have a scar.

I would think your lump is scar tissue possibly? But one thing I know, having a foreign ofject in you for X number of months would leave something leftover.

I have a little lump where my port was, but not nearly as big as the port itself. My surgeon told me it is scar tissue, and there was lots to cut through when they took it out (I was awake for procedure). I don't think it is anything to worry about, but I would keep an eye on the healing process.

Yup, I had a good sized lump there for a few weeks after it was removed,  and apparently there was a lot of scar tissue around the port. It went down a bit after about a month, but I can still feel where the port was.

    hated that port!

It did me well, and saved my veins....but it felt so freaky...lol

I was/am so glad to have it out. Can't believe I had it in for over a year...

HI.  Had my port removed during my replacement surgery mid August - still have a lump beneath the surface that is very tender and red.  I have been using cocoa butter on it, but quite honestly it is a much nastier looking scar than my MS scar.  I am not a very big person and even with the smallest port they could put in, my skin was very stretched and the port itself was very obvious.  Can't believe that it still hurts, though.  Tammy
