my mom ws operated for a breast lump.turned out to be IDC.Tumour size 2.5 cm.The slides were not processed well.the pathologist couldnt tell abt the grade. second opinion for the slides also dint help because of the poor processing.ER,PR status and the grade couldnt be assesed because of the suboptimal sections. She underwent a Mastectomy with axillary clearance.17 LN were removed. The mastectomy specimen showed no residual tumour but a small focus of DCIS 1x 0.5x 0.5cm. There was a Lymphoplasmocytic infiltrate. Nipple areola and deep margins unremarkable.5 out of 17 LN show metasttic tumor with peri nodal spread. They 've done ER,PR status of the metastatic nodes which has come negative,Her 2 neu is equivocal.

My query is whether the hormone receptor status of the mets is same as that of the original tumor? coz the phenotype can change in the metastasis.

Also can the receptor status of the DCIS focus will be helpful ?

The phenotype of the cells in the lymphnodes should be the same as the parent tumor, but, like everything else, that's not a 100% correlation.  The DCIS is a different occurance.  The receptor status may oar may not be the same as the larger turmor.  I'm so sorry the surgeon and pathologist let you down by not processing the samples properly.  This is hard enough to deal with without having to make treatment choices based on uncertain information.
