Eyebrows months after chemo has ended

Hi there,
I had 4 round of taxotere, the last one in May 31st, 2009, and my eyebrows (which were just perfect before chemo) are so sparse. I'm 30 years old, and nobody my age is walking around without eyebrows ;-(. I mean, do I still have hope or it either grows back within a few months or not at all? Anybody here had sparse eyebrows 8 months after chemo, but normal more or less 2 years after? (I can wait! I just don't want to be eyebrowless forever)
thanks,
Sarah

I'm more than 30 years old but my story is the same. I finished chemo in June 2009 and my brows are very, very sparse. I hope there is someone out there who will tell us that it just takes a little longer.

I tried Double Lash and my brows and lashes grew in super fast! I had 11 weekly TC and lost ALL lashes and most of my brows. They were back in less than a month with the Double Lash and it only cost me $12! Now, if I could find something to work as well on my head.
-
hrf - you also had taxotere? I really hope somebody out there will tell us that! I hate the looks. It reminds me that I had cancer.
-
Sarah, Cannot ans. your question, but I know that not many young women get brow tats after chemos. So most of them must grow back.
I agree totally with the eyeshadow fill in for sparse brows. I use a stiff angled brush and an orangy shadow (and it stays ALL day) over my light brown tat brows and there you have: auburn. My hair color.
I used a brownish/red shadow for a long time before the tats because I could no longer find auburn pencil. and shadow is Much easier to do than pencil. If you must use pencil, use a soft brush after you apply the pencil to smudge it out and remove pencil lines.

My eyebrows came in much thinner (still black, however, but now I don't have to pluck) and lashes, well, a hopeless case -- like Otter, I don't even bother with mascara. I just wear liner.
Sarahms, it took my eyebrows several months (maybe a year) to come in. Can you attend a "Look Good, Feel Better" session? Lots of good tips, and it's free.
I hated being eyebrow-less because, while I had a great wig, the Mona Lisa look really did give away the fact that I was a cancer patient (which I wanted to disguise while I was job hunting, and later, teaching).

April 20th, 2012 was my last chemo session
). It's been 1 month, 2 weeks and 3 days since i have noticed the hair on my head has started to grow back. The color of my new hair is grey, with some dark hair growing as well. I also have noticed that my old eyebrows have been falling out and new hair growth is coming in at the same time.
My chemotherapy was Taxtotere and Carbo.
I still have my eyelashes though. I am assuming that they will fall out as well.

Hi all, I was researching this topic in March of 2013 because it has been 25 MONTHS .. yes, 2 years and 1 month, since the end of my 4xTC in February, 2011. I am sorry to report that almost everything stated above is true .. at least for me. I could have written verbatim Otter's reply from Christmas, 2009: patchy brows, short thin lashes. I'm on Tamoxifen (don't know why with ER-PR-) and often think of not taking it just to see if the brows and lashes would return to their pre-cancer thickness and length. Now I'm wondering if they will return in 4 years? Ever?
-
Mine never did come back except sparsley and then a new drug would thin them out.
I think it is the missing eyebrows that gives us that distinctly chemo look.
I had mine tatooed by a chemo makeup specialist associated with a plastic surgeon. Best money spent. They look natural.
I was always drawing them on crooked...looked like an idiot most days.
I wish I had done it sooner. -
Taxotere is very hard on hair, and I've heard it is even harder on hair than AC or FEC. My eyebrows and lashes are a shadow of their former selves, and sadly, they were pretty nice before. Now, I have moth eaten brows and stubby lashes. I think TC attacks "fine" and "soft" hairs. I also have what is a more receeding hairline that I find a little embarrassing. It's because I used to have softer hair at the temples where now it's much more bald. I can't complain, as I've got hair. Some unlucky women never get their hair back.
It's been 2+ years, I don't expect my eyelashes or brows to rebound at this point. I'm a master at penciling them. I find the brow shadow only looks more natural in some light. The pencil holds up better in photos and flourescent. I haven't bothered with latisse or anything like that.

I agree with what the others have said. Taxotere kills hair permanently. Although I was pretty good with a brow pencil, I finally had them tatooed on ..... look amazing!! But you need to find someone who can do it well.

I had 4 rounds of TC. Chemo ended 9/2015. Radiation ended late 10/2015. My hair grew back in some areas. Lashes remain sparse, which is very different compared to precancerous. My eyebrows never grew back. At any given time, I have none to 5 hairs over one or both eyes. I've learned to draw them on.

Thanks for your wisdom Ladies. Six months after four rounds of TC, I have learned to draw my eyebrows on pretty well with a demonstration from the lady at the Lancôme Counter at Ulta. However, if I get too tired of these I may seek out permanent makeup. There is a chemo makeup specialist in Sarasota where I live and I just may go and talk to them. They seem to have positive reviews.
-
It's expensive but hair transplants can be done to the eyebrow area.
-
Thanks for your reply. I think the permanent makeup will be a better solution for me.
-
Yes and it's cheaper too.
-
sorry I didn't read all the thread but I have a friend who who used latisse with good results on her eyebrows. You could research that
