Not Cancer------Haiti

This has nothing to do with Breast Cancer, but please pray for all of the poor people of Haiti.  I haven't logged on this site for over 36 hours. My husband has been in Haiti on business and was missing there.  We finally received word  30 hours later that he is alive.  We are so thankful and relieved, but there are so many others still suffering and dying as I type this.  Please pray for this poor country.

It is awful that these people have to go throught this. Why? is all I ask. Prayer is what is needed.

I don't know anyone personally in Haiti but our church general conference does sponsor a small orphanage there. According to the conference web site, there are 55 children being sponsored in Haiti at the orphanage. My Sunday school class sponsors one of the children. We (my church) are waiting to hear about the condition of the orphanage and the children and are praying for all.

My husband is a freight forwarder.  He deals with a large part of the Haitian community.  He has made a yearly visit for the last 3 years.  He goes to show them he is in touch with them...We never in a million years worried about an earthquake.  We know it is not really a safe place to travel to, but he was never alone there, always with business people from there.  He called me at 4:20 pm, that he was with his agent, they had a good meeting, and he was exhausted. She was driving him back to his hotel, The Hotel Montana (which has collapsed).  I heard a few minutes ago, that they dug someone out alive.  He got to the hotel area we believe, just as the quake hit.  I have not spoken to him, we got 3rd party news that he was alive, and finally received an email from the state dept, and a call from a UN worker late last night.  He is supposed to be well, not hurt.  We have had no word from him, himself. He has always told me they are good people there, who suffer terribly from the poverty.  Now it's even worse for them.. They need prayers, food, meds, help, everything, and again prayers.

My husband spoke to our pastor today at noon and he has not gotten any information from the orphanage yet.

Spoke to hubby tonight.  He's in DR.  awaiting flight home tomorrow.  Good Morning America will be at airport to welcome him home. They did a telephone interview with my daughter in law that aired this morning.   They want to do the follow up on him.  He has a hurt ankle only.  Got hurt climbing up mountain road to get to hotel Montana, just to find it crushed when he got there. Spent the night on the grass by the pool.  Lucky for him he wasn't in the hotel. Many still buried under the rubble tonight.  Please pray for these poor people and throughout the nation Haiti tonight. He said we can't imagine what he saw.. He said he doesn't know if the people of Haiti can ever recover.  He told me he thought he'd never see us again. We can't stop crying for the heartache over there.

Glad to hear your hubby is OK.  I saw this morning that several US citizens were pulled from the rubble of a hotel ok. I don't know the name of the orphanage that we sponsor but saw on ABC last night and this morning good stories about a couple of orphanages that the children are OK. There are also several churches (about 25) in Hati that our conference works with that are supervised by Pastor Bertrand and he is the one overseeing several orphanages in Haiti for the Conference. My church is praying for everyone in Haiti

mittmott - I know how important it was to you to hear you DH's voice on the phone and to know that he's safe and sound and that his only physical damage is a hurt ankle. I know he'll be home soon - you've all been through some serious  emotional trauma - hugs to you ...  my thoughts and prayers are still going out for all those in Haiti - hoping for aid to get there quickly - it's so heartbreaking to see the images and the stories

Sheila - I saw Pastor Bertrand on a show last night - where they skyp'ed him and showed him with 3 children that are being adopted by a family in Portland, Oregon - they were so thrilled to see the three kids they are adopting and to know that they are safe.

    Prayers,

To everyone here:  Thank you for your kind words and prayers.  My husband came home last night.  Great Homecoming...  Please pray for the Haitian people, and urge everybody to donate to them.
