barbe1958 - Good for you with the giving up of sugar. I have definitely cut back in the last year. Looking back on your posts, as this is my first time on this thread, all I can say is - poor alcohol - it gets blamed for so much.

Flaminnora- did you learn anything worth sharing??

I have read there is no solid evidence of this. Many people associate sugar with cancer cause in PET scans, they use sugar for the uptake.

thanks, everyone for sharing on this topic. I am newly dx and my husband and I differ greatly on this subject. He wants me to cut out all sugar cold turkey! It is very hard! I am trying, but when I saw this topic posted, I decided to read all of the posts, and am so glad I did! I too, had heard that sugar "feeds" cancer. So glad to hear that it really doesn't, any more that anything else does. I am trying to use my dx to cut out unnecessary sugars. A hard journey, but I'm getting through it. I start rads next Monday... we'll see....!

Are you also going to cut out all other carbs as ell, Eden? I mean, the body doesn't know any difference between sugar and other carbs once it's converted into glucose. So to go "sugar free," if that is what they are doing, they would need to eliminate all other carbs from their diet as well, rice, potatoes, spaghetti, peas, carrots, beets, corn, milk, cherries, grapes, strawberries, oranges, watermelon, honey, cheese, etc etc etc.
If one wants to reduce damage done to the metabolic system by too much carbs, then one needs to simply be sure to balance the carbs with a high fiber diet and increase physical exercise. It really is that simple. Sugar is a reasonable part of a healthy diet, if used in moderation. One doesn't need to eliminate it completely. I'm a diabetic. What I do is reduce my simple carb intake and try to increase my protein, fiber and complex carb intake.

My Cancer was Estrogen receptive. cancer as well as many other disease(diabetes) has come into our lives over the years of being on all these processed foods. I feel sugar and carbs are fueling many diseases. For me, this includes grains. It is So hard but i think worth it in the end to eat more protein and less carbs/sugar. I only use organic eggs, (hormone free) milk and eggs, and organic meats now. Our chickens and cows are being fed hormones and anti biotics to increase their growth and we are eating those hormones. I think the FDA is a joke that is funded by the companies that make the processed junk food. so yes I believe sugar fuels cancer cells.
I have been on my new (not vegetarian) diet for almost 8 weeks. I always brought into the low fat foods but really all they are filled with sugar to keep the taste.we need to do our own research. I read "Protein power" it is a great book that explains how our bodies chemically break down foods. Insulin plays a huge role for all of us not just diabetics. I use Sweet Leaf 100% pure natural sweetener Stevia! It has 0 carbs. I guess time will tell if their is any truth in this....
