It takes 30 days to become habit CONTEST

Wii-ed this afternoon. Did my usual step routine, then went over to the strength training. Man, that plank is hard!! Going to get a little routine together I can do every day to get some muscles toned.
Also did the bird thing - that is really fun and really tiring!!
-
Crawl gets your upper body though. One of the reasons I started weights about 10 years ago was because my upper body didn't match my lower body in terms of being toned. I like being matched on both ends. Drove me nuts post surgery too, when I could walk or cycle, but not do free weights. Plus my abs just did their thing which wasn't exactly what I wanted.
Got out cycling with a friend this afternoon. Just lovely as the sun came out and we did the 22 mile trail. It was warm so everyone in the world was out working off holiday pounds. Had tea and a slice of lemon cake afterwards.
I never really did learn to do the crawl, so still specialize in dog paddle. But will swim for hours in the ocean or a lake that way. I don't normally do pools, but love to swim in either fresh or salt water.

Last night DD and I walked the dogs....we have 2 big dogs.... 4 1/2 year old Bernese Mountain dog (we lost her brother to leukemia this past fall) and 6 year old german shepherd/malamute mix that my son adopted this summer.....the Berner, Rosey kind of dictates the walk...it she doesn't want to go somewhere she will just sit down....at 80+ pounds, you can't make her move....so walk was about 27 minutes (does that count as 1/2 hour).....today about 55 minutes total...its starting to warm up....getting to the 50's in the next couple days, so things will melt, but the icy is still scary....so afraid to fall and break something...never seen a dog fall!!!
-
I'll have to try the plank and bird thingy on the Wii. I have to get more into it, the most I've done with it is the step...
-
I still haven't googled "plank" but will one of these days...keep thinking about getting one of those balls.....got to do something with my soft abs.....got an almost 1/2 hour walk in this evening....this morning went with DD selling girls scout cookies, so I would say that adds another 15 to 20 mintues to the day....now I need to total it all up to see where I am at so far....I don't have word on my computer so haven't downloaded the form yet....need to do it on DH computer....but I have been writing my time down in my datebook....if I don't I won't remember...so to be conservative, at a minumum of 30 min/day, that would put me at least at 300 minutes....I'm sure it is higher, but till I add it up, don't know for sure....but this challenge, has kind of kept me going when I think about slacking off....thanks....now just need to get to twice/day....
-
I don't do the plank on the Wii - well, I did just to get instructions, but all the talking that guy does annoys me, so the best thing is just learn how to do it, then you can do it anytime you think about it. My husband and I were doing them last night during ads on TV, it was quite funny. I can really feel it in my ab muscles, so it must be doing some good.
Got my 3 month check-up tomorrow so I am in throw-up mode today. Ugg. I know everything is going to be fine, I am not expecting any nasty surprises, it is just having to go, you know.
Anyhow, did my 30 min this morning, will do some Wii-ing this afternoon when Jack is at school. warming up a bit here I think.... (to a whopping minus 4C....)
-
Hugs, Kerry. You will be in my prayers for calm & uneventful. I laughed at your "he talks too much" on the wii. I swear at him when he's telling me "I think your hips and chest are dropping". I think the words "bite me" and "kiss off" have popped out of my mouth.
-
Hey, we got pinned! Great.
Thanks Cindy. I will keep you posted. Hoping for boring too..... Yep, those Wii folk are all so annoying! That step woman - "keep up with me, you're going a little slow" Oh, she makes me so mad!!
-
woo hoo, pinned!!
Good luck tomorrow Kerry. Methinks you are perfectly fine, but yes, just going for an appt. is freaky!
I saw my onc. today about the zometa prescipt. and I was freaked just for that appt. I'm backpedalling a bit on the zometa. I don't know what to do... I'll give it some time.
So excited we now have 2 babies on the way here!
-
Good luck Everyone !! I've been inspired by you all too!!!
-
Kerry- Sending you calming vibes. It will be over quick enough (yeah and we all know how freaked I was last week). SO BORING BORING BORING followed by some exercise and a bragging post how awesome you are!!!!!
-
A 30 min swim tonight - over 1/2 mile crawl without stopping - which is a big deal for me! And then a one mile run and some PLANKS!
-
Melissa, we expect a report in every other day
Mary, good job! I will miss today (with no backup minutes). I've been freezing all day and have a killer headache.
-
Bugs - I already harrased you on facebook! Since I made the rules on this contest, I get to break them and I say you deserve a break today but tomorrow you have to drop and give me 30 *minutes that is!*
Feel better!
-
Hi all,
Wish I had seen this sooner. I really need the motivation. I will look end of January to do in February. Does walking to and from work to the train count?
Thanks.
-
Ive been bad. Not food choice bad.....exercise bad. I have not gone to the gym in 5 days. Ive been in a little funk, got stuff on the brain.
I hope to return full force soon.
Keep up the good work everyone!
-
Had a great walk tonight....tried out my new iPod....it was wonderful listening to Sir Paul and Carole King while walking....it has started to warm up, so all the snow on the neighborhood streets is melting during the day and freezing at night....so the street is like a skating rink....sidewalks were clear in most places, but a few slick spots....nothing like walking watching the ground....with the music, I may just have to increase my walk beyond 1/2 hour, or see if I can get two walks/day in.....
Cindy....feel better.....hugs....

Everyone is doing so well it makes my effort seem feeble. Have managed to do at least 30 mins walk every day and intend to double it from now on. Wore a pedometer today and the result might explain why my weight has stayed much the same this last year. when I was teaching I was walking twice the distance most days and that wasn't my exercise walk. Will get to pilates later this week as well so that will up my time. Any way this is keeping me motivated.

Bugs - hope you feel better soon.
Karen - oh, I hate it when that happens - melt then freeze. We had more snow last night, not much. We haven't had a big storm this winter yet, we could do with a good dump - be careful what I wish for, right!
I've never used a pedometer, I've always thought it would be a fun thing to try. I don't know if anyone has Game Boys floating around, but they have a personal trainer walking programme - you carry a little thing with you then plug it back into the Game Boy and it tracks your walking.
Anyhow, I did my 30 min this morning. Got my appointment at 9:30 this morning, so at least it will be over with early. Have a good day everyone!
-
Kerry I just wanted to wish you good luck with your appt ths mornng. I hope it is totally uneventful.
-
Thank you everyone so much for your good thoughts. I amhome from my appt - "No Concerns", which I think are about the two sweetest words I could have heard!
-
Awesome Kerry! Now, enjoy the rest of the day in sweet "no concerns" peace!
-
That's great news Kerry!
I have just got back from another walk in the snow. It really is hanging around this year and more is forecast. I have several routes I can walk that take me around 30 minutes with snow on the ground. I try to walk at as brisk a pace as I can manage while remaining vertical. It makes me feel better and now I have the incentive of getting in my 30 minutes a day.
-
Jayne, we've seen pics on the news of your Canadian winter. My friend lives in Marlow and has been off work as she can't get her car out. Hope you guys get a melt or at least a new load of salt supplies!
-
Well done Kerry. Its so good to get those appointments out of the way with no problems. My check ups begin at the end of next week.
About to go for a walk, we need some bread so will get some on the way.
Happy exercising.

Great News Kerry! Those are sweet words!
-
For those that have fallen off the exercise wagon - GET BACK ON :-)
-
Yeah guys, you don't want to mess with Mary!
-
haha! As my father used to say - "this hurts me more than it hurts you!" - I never understood that saying....
:-)
-
Kerry, I love it when my doc says I'm unremarkable. Oh, how my view point has changed, LOL! Great news!
