Excuse me  I'm not sure if it is Ok to ask these questions here, however, if there is somebody in Los Angeles who has had tx at Cedars, would you mind sharing your experience and maybe even letting me know who your docs. were?  I don't have a clue where to start.  My GP want to wait to set up oncology and a breast surgeon until after the biopsy on Wednesday.  I'd prefer to get my ducks lined up LOL!

Thanks.

edited for typos.

goldenlotus ~ I'm in the Palm Springs area, and I used UCLA (in Westwood).  I'm sure Cedars is wonderful, too, although I don't recall seeing it mentioned on these boards.  So if you're open to another option, I can't say enough great things about The Revlon Breast Center at UCLA.  Wonderful surgeons, wonderful reconstruction (I had Diep), very thorough, very supportive re. integrative medicine, extremely caring docs & staff -- everyone gets back to you quickly no matter how minor the concern.  Feel free to PM me if you ever want to know more, and best of luck to you whichever facility you choose.    Deanna

Thanks Deanna.  I'm not sure, but I think I'm kinda stuck with Cedars b/c of my insurance.  I may be wrong.  First thing Monday, I'm going to look into it.  That said, I have had amazing treatment so far..........Diagnositic mammo and u/s on the same day, radiologist consult immediately after.  My own dr. called very next morning and the biopsy was set in motion for 7 days later - can't complain - LOL!

I will PM you.  What is dieP?  I he done zero research.  After I picked up my radiology report and Googled all the medical terminology, I sent myself into a spin from which I am only just coming down :-(

Goldenlotus - DIEP is a type of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction in which your abdominal tissue is removed and transplanted to replace the removed breast tissue. (very oversimplified description)

goldenlotus ~  Cedars is probably a great hospital to be "stuck" with!  If I'm not mistaken, Sheryl Crow went there for her bc tx, as do a lot of other folks who can afford to go anywhere.

As far as Diep flap reconstruction, it can be done either post mastectomy, or right along with a mastectomy (as mine was).  It's state-of-the-art vascular/plastic surgery where they basically rebuild your breast using tummy tissue.  Hopefully, you won't need a mast, but if it becomes an option for you, you are thankfully in an area with top docs who are totally up on the latest reconstruction techniques.

Googling pathology terms can be confusing and very scary.  Let us know if we can help you put the info' you've found in perspective.    Deanna

    (edited to spell Sheryl correctly)

i would agree about Cedars being a good place to be stuck---i was there for a hysterectomy.  Every room is a private room--no extra charge!  And the staff was really quite pleasant.

I was there this morning!  I fell and twisted my ankle - I thought I broke it, but its just a bad sprain and a torn ligament!  Oh!  The stress!!!!  This time tomorrow, my biopsy will either be over or almost over.  I'm PRAYING really hard that the radiologist jumped the gun!  I'm so afraid ........
