Found a swelling on left side of neck and supraclavicular area

Options

I have been off the boards for a while now, just busy with daily things.  I am currently having Herceptin treatments and this week I found an area of swelling on the left side of my neck and supraclavicular area.  It is not painful and I can not feel any actual lump.  Any ideas or should I be concerned?  Thanks for any help.

Get it checked for peace of mind if nothing else.  Better safe than sorry.

Faith316, thanks.  I have Herceptin on Wed and will ask the nurses to take a look.  I pray all goes well for you too.  I see we have very similar original diagnosis.  God Bless, Kathy

Kathy, you may have an infection you're not aware of that can cause this but I agree on having it checked out just in case.

Tricia, thanks.  I am not usually a worrier but a teenager I met while in the hospital has just had a mets with her cancer.  She finished chemo and rads about the same time as I did.  So now you think every little thing means it has come back.  Again, thanks and God Bless, Kathy

I had my Herceptin treatment today and I had the nurse take at look at the area of swelling.  She said she could feel something in my neck and asked when I am seeing the oncologist.  I told her next week and she said to be sure to point it out to her.  I am just going to forget about it over Christmas.  God Bless to all and have a great Christmas!  Kathy

    Kathy,

I'm doing the same with my bone mets scare, it's tough having this on our minds but comes with this disease!!

Hang in there, it's more than likely not serious but it helps to have it checked as soon as we find it.

Try to push it to the back of your mind and have a relaxing time:)

I have swelling in the same area that always gets more swollen after my herceptin treatment.  There is a little ball that moves around in there, but it doesn't show up on the ultrasound or any scans I have every 2 months.  It is believed to be a lipoma - a non cancerous fat tumor.  I guess they don't show up in radiology tests because they are just fat.  Herceptin also makes my belly, left arm and hand (my port is on that side) swell after treatment.  They think that herceptin goes after any area with irritation and can increase the swelling.  Keep us updated as to what they find and I am sure it is fine :>

TriciaK, thanks for the encouragement.  I am going to relax and just enjoy the holiday.

Chainsawz, that sure sounds like it may be a possibility for me too.  Thank you so much for the information.  How are you doing?  Have a wonderful Christmas and I will let you all know what my oncologist has to say next week.  I will be praying for you and your family.  God Bless

I too have a swollen area on the right collar bone. I noticed it 2 days before Thanksgiving-and still have it. Visiting Dr. Google kind of freaked me out, so I too am just hoping it is one of those funky things that just "happens". I see the onc the 1st week in Jan. Wishing us both luck!!!

Do keep us all updated on what your oncologists say - I wonder if it is just a weird SE of herceptin.  It seems to cause some crazy swelling.

I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday!  I am off work for 4 days so I plan on eating and lounging!  I am doing great Rocky - thanks for asking :>  My brain scan this week was clear which is an amazing Christmas gift!

Well, she really didn't say what it was from, just that she could not feel anything to be worried about.  She checked both breasts also.  I was relieved, but will also keep an eye on it.  Kathy

I saw the onco today and he thinks my swelling is due to the reconst. surgery. He said as long as it doesn't grow I should not worry. So I will not worry!!
