Going back? I never stopped. I also have never heard of anyone being told because they were triple neg not to work. There are many Stage IV girls on board triple neg or not that have continued to work.

Did u stay at work because finacially u needed, or insurance reasons. My Dr asks do you want to ?
-
I stayed because I was feeling fine and yes, I financially needed to, but would have continued on for my sanity sake, even if I did not need to support myself and my granddaughter. I think I would have probably given into my severe fear over this triple neg diagnose, so being at work for the past 10 months of all my surgeries and treatments has really helped my mindset. I am finished with all my therapy and of course, the new fear of "no more treatment" climbs to the surface often, but am trying to keep it down! So far so good, but I don't think I will ever have "serenity" again, to be honest. Good luck to you.

My wife is on temp. disability now. She just needs a few weeks to rest and to take care of herself.

I've been out for the last 6 months for surgery and chemo, as chemo SE's have not been kind to me. However, I have worked some from home and have stayed connected and will be going back to work in the next few weeks - for which I am looking forward to.
-
I am also a triple negative and have not quit work. I have a missed a couple of days - but continue to work and will continue to work through radiation. No one ever told me to quit work. I think I would have gone out of mind if I did not work.

I worked very part time in the midst of chemo...then back FT during RT.
I really would have been a wreck without the mental diversion of work.

I left work one year after my recurrence diagnosis and while undergoing treatment. I've been off for one year now and unless I experience a complete remission, I will not go back to work even if only 39.. It is not that I am lazy by any means. I've enjoyed a fantastic career for the last 16 years, and its been an adjustment to not have that career anymore. However, I've now had cancer three times, undergone 29 surgeries since 1988, and have ridden a health roller coaster my whole adult life---I am taking a deserved break.
In '08, I applied for SS benefits and received a positive determination in 4 weeks! That was scary. Plus, I had elected voluntary long term disability coverage as part of my benefits package. I'll receive those funds too until age 65. Financially, I won't be vacationing on the Riviera any time soon, but I can live off these funds.
Could I work again in my career? Probably. Can I be as great at is as I was before? Probably not. My health fluctuates between good days and bad days. I've worked hard all my life (started selling Avon at 13) and it is time to take a break and smell the roses. I'm thankful for having the ability to do so. Less stress has been helpful to my treatment process.
To each his own, but I'm not going back to a full time career.

I have been out of work for approx 4 months. I will return during radiation but have plenty of leave available if I need to during rads. I look forward to going back to work.

If I were diagnosed with mets, I probably would look into SS disability and quit working. But not just because I've had TN BC twice. I worked part-time during treatment, and I'm feeling fine post-treatment. There's also the health insurance coverage to worry about, since my husband and I are covered through my job.

Dang it I'm trying so hard to get back to work!! Trip neg has nothing to do with work or not it's CAN you. My doc would sign me to return in a snap. My problem still is the effects of radiation to my lt hip and right knee for mets. Last treatments were in October and the main side effect is stiffness and still some slight aches, but the stiffness is what I'm working on. If I had a desk job I would have returned already but as a nurse I have to be on my feet at least 8 hours a day. The other thing I'm concerned with is that the bone doctor said for up to 6 months after radiation there is still a risk of fracture if you "overdo" it since the bones are still healing, so I"m taking it easy, walking slow and looking forward to getting back in the workforce.
