Hello LCIS ladies !

I was dx in May 2009 with ILC and LCIS. I have since had a lumpectomy, chemo and just started taking Tamoxifen.  My BS and ONC both recommend Mx over radiation.  I am very unsure of what my next step should be. It seems most people with LCIS choose the have MX but it seems very drastic to me.  I am very scared about loosing my breast eventhough I would have implants. I am  worried that if I am not happy with the results or how they feel that I can't go back an get my old boobs back .... It is such a big decision to make - any advice and experience is welcome !!

Thanks,

Marie

I chose lumpectomy--I had a 2.7cm pleomorphic ILC tumor and widespread pleomorphic LCIS. I had recommendations for both bilat mast and lumpectomy, depending on which doc I was talking to. I am 2 1/2 years out and have not had any local recurrence.

I had a lumpectomy. I didn't find out about my extensive LCIS until after I started chemo for my HER2+ve PILC. I totally freaked out when I read my pathology report as it didn't say they had clear margins on the LCIS only on the invasive tumour. I have since been to see a new breast surgeon and asked her if she agreed with my treatment. She did. LCIS is different from DCIS in that it is not carcinoma at all. I was comforted to read about LCIS on this website. However, I am having an MRI in October to check out the other breast.

Marie----you might get more responses on the ILC thread, since this thread is for LCIS (by itself, without an invasive bc), and ILC with LCIS is a whole different situation. ( although you ILC ladies are certainly welcome here!)
