Elizabeth, if you go to Boston today, have a safe drive!
-
Thanks Barbe -- Heading out at noon...I hope there's a Tim Horton's open somewhere -- I need my timbits for the drive!
-
Elizabeth, have a safe drive and a great time while you are in Boston. Hopefully there's a Timmy's on the road somewhere.
Barbe, hope you are having a good Christmas.
-
Helen, I have finished grouting and sealing the backsplash and I cleaned the fridge.
-
barbe, that's more work than going to work. I'm home ... my son and his girlfriend were here this morning but they've gone out. I'm enjoying the quiet and no pressure to go out to do anything because all stores are closed. So, I'm reading, playing on the internet etc. Will you and your DH enjoy a nice dinner together?
-
So, I am not the only one peeking in on Christmas day. My two boys have just left for their dinners. Tomorrow night they are mine! We will be leaving shortly to have a Christmas dinner with my Mom at her retirement home, but tomorrow night is our big family gathering.
Wishing all a good holiday.
-
I had two great Christmas gatherings - the major tragedy, one that Elizabeth likely knows by now - is that the Timmy shops in town were closed on Christmas Day - the one on the 401 was open. Everything else was great!
-
Just checking in. What a busy Christmas, but it was very good. My girls loved it. Santa managed to bring them what they wanted. Antibiotics are almost done, and I think the infection is taken care of, although the skin is really suffering. Ugh. Three more rads to go. I finish on the 31st. Belated Merry Christmas to you all. Boy, I'm looking forward to the new year.
-
Rinna - what great symbolism, to finish rads on Dec. 31. Here's to a much, much better 2010!
Linda
-
Major congrats, Rinna, on your impending graduation from rads!
Just an FYI. I finished rads in early May but didn't really start to feel normal again until mid-August so be kind to yourself for a while! You've certainly earned it.
-
Rinna, you will definitely have something good to celebrate on the 31st! Time to put 2009 behind and look forward to a happy, healthy 2010! (That's what I did with 2008 -- a write-off year if there ever was one!!!).
WEATHER UPDATE: After a very green Christmas, Niagara is now blanketed in about 2-3 inches of the white stuff. At least the green gave us good travelling weather over the holidays -- by land! Glad I'm not flying to the U.S. with all the new flight restrictions -- that is, if the flight hasn't been cancelled due to all the patting down and emptying of purses and checking carry-ons. When I fly, I always pack the "essentials" in a carry-on, cuz I never know if my checked bag will be lost in transit. I wonder if many of these new regulations are just to appease the public about making flying safer? I don't think any precautions (except not boarding the plane!) are really effective.....<sigh>

Thanks for the well wishes. Although I finish on the 31st, I do have to keep up with the antibiotics for another week. Good news.My DH and I just booked a week in Cuba for the first week of February. We're bringing the girls with us - they can't believe their luck. I can't believe I'm near the finish line. I have heard that it takes a while to recover. I am planning on going back to work after March Break. (I'll be teaching grade one). I hope that's not too soon. I could stay off until Sept., but I think I'll be ready.
-
I have a question on getting my scan results. I'm not seeing Dr. McDreamy (my onc) next week before chemo and I don't know what the protocol is for getting my scan results. Will the nurse or onc on duty be able to give them to me? Should I just snatch away my file and peek?
What about getting copies? Before I was in a small clinic where I could ask one of the support staff to make a photocopy. Anyone here from the Ottawa Cancer Center that can tell me the ins and outs so I don't look like a newbie dork? Thanks!!
-
Elizabeth, why not call the doc's office and let his assistant know that you are anxious to get your results. I'm sure the doc would call you back or arrange for the onc on duty to give you results. I have never asked for copies but there is no reason not to. At my hospital (Sunnybrook) they have a program called "My Chart" and I can get copies of all my results, including doc's reports, on line. You could find out if your hospital has something similar.
-
Some of my doctors just make me copies and hand them to me. Others I have to ask for copies. I would expect that with our centralized care your results should be in your records and they could find them for you.
-
Our family doctor gets all the copies from the hospital (PMH) and we have an agreement with her - at the moment she receives the result, she gives us a call.
-
HRF -- that is so cool having your records online -- I didn't read anything about that for my hospital :-(.
I can wait until next Friday to find out the results during chemo -- I hate talking on the phone. I like to have the paper in my grubby little hands so maybe I can sweet talk someone into a photocopy...
-
I don't have any of my results since September, told them I will see them January 5th and get them all at once. I wanted to go through the holidays not knowing the results of my: bone scan, bone density, hip x-ray, breast ultrasound and brain CT scan!
-
Now I couldn't wait that long! But I can see wanting to get all the results after the dreaded holidays. Don't forget to let us know all the good news!!!
-
The only thing he did call me for was that my iron levels in my bood were pretty non-existent so he called in a prescription iron med. Now we have to find out "why". I'm a red meat eater and have no periods and haven't changed my eating habits....so why now?
-
Huh -- that's weird. Did he have a theory?
-
Wow Barbe - What patience you have! I'd be chomping at the proverbial bit to get the info sooner. Hope that all your results are favourable.
-
Barbe -- could it be a side effect of any meds or supplements you might be taking? My fav site is http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html for checking out these things.
Off to run errands -- see ya later!
-
I WAS supposed to see him in December and then it got changed twice so I said FORGET IT!!! I'll see him in January. They were pretty surprised...hehehehehe
No theories on the iron yet and I don't take any med that interacts. The only thing I can come up with is that I stopped drinking wine with dinner! I drink tea now and apparently tea doesn't allow your body to absorb the iron you're eating. So should I start drinking again!?!?!
The supplements I WERE taking did have iron in them! Go figure....sigh.
-
Well, there you go! Still weird. Maybe too much tea close to eating dinner?
-
Barbe,
My iron borderline and my doctor could not find out why. I read a lot online and discovered (may or may not be right) that if you are eating a high fiber diet or using a lot of metamucil the fibers would absorb the iron and your body would not benefit from it. I reduced my fibers and do not take All-bran and metamucil each day anymore just to see if this helps. When I am due for a blood test I will let you know.
Jus an idea, although there seems to be many reasons for anemia when you google for it. Wish you well on your results, this goes for konakat also, love reading your exchanges,
Welga
-
Welga, I don't have a high fibre diet. The reasons don't seem to apply to me; pregnant, heavy periods, no iron in diet, chemotherapy, bleeding ulcer, etc.....sigh. Yet another medical anomoly.
-
Barbe,
I understand it's frustrating, I really am not sure if high fiber is really the cluprit just read about it a few times, even whole wheat bread seams to matter, so no more sandwiches. I have had anemia for years, heavy period all my life, now into menopause since 4 years I tought things would get back to normal, but no...even eating more red meat did not help me. Wish we could find the answer, sure could use the energy that I lack of being anemic. Hoping we will find an answer even if I'm not to optimistic about it.
Welga
-
I was ASSUMING (doi!) that with the strong iron meds that I would get a LEAP of energy! I was awake for only 7 hours on New Years Day!!! (I don't eat bread)
-
PLEASE BLOCK ALL THE STATS SITES FROM ME OR JUST KICK ME IN THE HEAD!!!
This is driving me crazy and I must stay strong. Hell, I hate this...
Sorry, I just needed to scream...
