March 2010 Radiation Start

Options

Just starting a new thread for those planning to start radiation in March 2010. I will be finishing my chemo in early February and am hoping to start radiation after 4 weeks in early March.

What do folks think about choosing between the Canadian Fraction (16 day radiation) + booster vs. the standard (30 day radiation) + booster?

Hi Onty- Though I have 10 Taxols still to get through, I'll hang out here with you. I'm not sure I will make radiation in March, but I'm hoping. Do you know if it is normal to have a break between chemo and radiation? I don't know anything about the Canadian Fraction or standard.

    Hi Krcll,

I had abandoned this thread! I am glad I checked it today. My chemo will be ending early now. (I was switched to biweekly Abraxane from weekly Taxol). I will be having rads starting sometime in late Jan/early Feb.

To answer your questions: yes a break of 3-8 weeks between chemo and radiation is normal. The sooner you start the more effective is radiation but they still want your body heal from chemo and not have any residual severe side effects like fatigue, low blood counts etc so they like to wait about 3 weeks and sometimes even longer.

I will probably hang out much more on the January and even February Rads threads than this one. Maybe you should come and join us there and see what everyone has to say?

Good for you, getting done with chemo early! I'll stop by the January and February Rads to see what is in store. If there is a break for me before rads, then it looks like mine aren't until April. Arrgh! Good luck with your last chemo :-)
