surgerys after chemo

Options

Hi

Question can Chemo and Herceptin make healing from surgery more difficult. I was done with chemo in May still doing herceptin every other week. In September had to have emergency hysterectomy cause I was bleeding really bad. Doctor said it was probably from the chemo my body was fighting having a period again.

Than had a colonoscope four weeks later cause i was having problems after the hysterectomy. Two weeks ago had to have another surgery lapascopy done cause had lots of adhesions from the hysterectomy but I'm not healing very good from that either. Could the herceptin and chemo slow down the healing process. could anyone help me with this question.

Thanks Lynn

It's not unusual for your white blood cell count to be down for months and months after chemo ends. That may account for some of the healing issues but I'm not sure about the bleeding issues.

I just saw this post, so you may already have your answer and moved on, but I just had a hysterectomy/oopherectomy and both the gyn-onc and my regular onc wanted me to stop the herceptin for a few weeks.  They said they just don't know enough about herceptin and how it affects healing.  I had a treatment 2 weeks before the surgery and they just want me to postpone the next one by 1-2 weeks, just long enough to get through the initial healing window of about 7-10 days.
