sore throat from rads?

Options

tomorrow will be day 26 out of 28 radiation treatments. i'm doing a targeted treatment called tomotherapy, not for any tumors, just as insurance in case surgery & chemo left any thing behind. i'm pretty toasted under my arm, but it's tolerable with calendula cream & ointment, aquaphor and valisone.

but in the past two days, i've developed a sore throat - almost a palpable lump at the base of my throat - and it's making swallowing difficult. can anyone tell me, is this a radiation side effect? and how long will it last? it's scarier than the burnt skin!

I developed a sore throat and really bad indigestion after the rads.  Good luck!

Get your thyroid checked..  rads is notorious for ruining your thyroid.   Tami

Had the sore throat (golf ball in my throat!) every week until the weekend- went away- got worse. Now that I'm two weeks out of rads it is gone. Yeah!  The onc thought it may be candida esophagitis as I had thrush with chemo- I think my esophagus was just in the field a bit- either way- all gone- good luck.

I had a tickle cough and lump in my throat second half of radiation and it took about a month to go away after treatment ended.  Six months post rad all is fine.  My radiologist never allowed it could be from radiation.  Of course it was!  I hope all turns out well for you.

Recommend aloe vera gel: 2 T a day. In the refrigerator at health food stores. Taste is not so go but it treats the burn.
