New lump

Options

Today I was getting into the shower and noticed a reddened area about 2 inches below my armpit on the side that I had  breast cancer.  I had surgery a year ago and also had a lympectomy.  I first thought it was a hive...seemed slightly itchy but I'm so numb in that area that I'm not sure.  I felt it and it's round and moveable but bright red.  Anyone else ever get anything like this in that area and it turned out to be nothing?  My sister says it might be ingrown hair...but I really don't have hair in that area from radiation.  I was taken off herceptin for a month because of my heart and now this.  Who knows...I see the doctor in 2 days.  I'm so nervous!!

It is probably nothing, and I am going to continue to hope that for you.  Do go and have it checked out with your onc or breast surgeon.  We cannot afford to take any chances with this sneaky beast of a disease.  Keep us posted - stay strong and call the doc!

Bright red, round and movable sounds like a small abcess.  Abcesses are a common side effect of radiation and can occur years later.  Have you had any illness recently?  Radiation abscesses often occur shortly after an infection, either bacterial or viral.

Check it out with your onc and get some peace of mind.  But I understand how you feel--I had multiple abcesses after radiation and finally had a mastectomy to stop the abcesses, needle pokes, constant antibiotics and pain.
