I am starting chemo tomorrow, 8 tx every 3 weeks,  neo-adjuvant.  Want to thank all the great ladies on this site who share their experiences with us all.  I feel a little calmer today knowing that tomorrow starts the process of getting rid of this cance within me.  All the best to each and every one of you.

Surgery on Monday went very well.  Visibly the Surgeon could not find any cancer!!  Just awaiting the pathology report--but am feeling quite positive.  Ladies--I have to tell you that I am so thankful I decided on having a bilateral mastectomy w/o reconstruction!  The surgeon came to my room yesterday morning and took off the bandages--at first I told him I might not look down-- however something inside said "it's ok" - and so I looked.  To my surprise, I wasn't freaked out!!  I am still
"Me" and I no longer have to worry about mammograms, biopsies, etc!!!  I actually feel free and at peaceSmile WE CAN DO THIS!

It's me again.  The Surgeon called me today and I got some news I really didn't want to hear....  BUT am still so glad that I decided on bilateral mastectomy!  As I said before--- After Chemo was complete, they could not find any cancer on the PET scan!!!  However, the pathology report showed 12/18 positive lymph nodes!!!! And I still had (2) small tumors less than 1 cm in my rt. breast.  Left breast was clean.  You ladies were so right on with going ahead with surgery even if you have a clean PET scan!!!  Radiation is next after I heal from surgery and I guess Tamoxifen for 5 years after that?

SherriG-- Thank you soooo much for letting me know your story:)  This has really eased some of my concerns about them finding 12/18 lymph nodes positive.   I am doing very well after my bilateral and find myself trying to do things around the house that I'm not suppose to be doing.  I was taken back a little last night when I looked at myself in the mirror again-- it looked like a war zone.  I pray it gets better:) Thanks Again SherriG

    precioustime,

I appreciate your posting this information.  I've been planning on a mast since the begining and once I got the BRCA results that cinched the BMX.   But another decision I've been trying to make is whether I want to do surgery locally or go to Seattle Cancer Care.  Your posts convinced me that the surgery really does matter.  I'm going to Seattle and forget about convenience or being closer to home.

I'm glad you are doing well after the surgery.  That's inspiring also!!

PT everyone reacts diff to the huge scar.I am almost 5 years since my DX and 4 since my MX.I am so used to it I often forget to even pack my foobs when we travel.I do not wear them unless I am getting dressed up for a function.

I too chose not to reconstruct and am very happy with my decision. My only problem is that I travel so much and finding swimsuits that look ok without foobs can be difficult.I guess I should splurge on one online from the MX sites.

It took awhile but now my whole family is used to seeing my foobless.

Best wishes for a healthy new year!
