Whenever I had nightmares a a little girl, I would wake up and my mother would be right there. It didn't occur to me that I might have cried or made noise - I just would wake up and she "knew" I had a bad dream and would help me.
She was always "right there".
Now she's in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and she's fading away. My heart is breaking in little pieces.

Leah, I'm sorry.
I just read all 14 pages of this thread - thank you for all the wonderful memories!
Some of my favorites:
Playing all sorts of games outside - tag, hide and go seek, greenlight/redlight
Making rice crispie treats & Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookies with my mom. And, if we were short on an ingredient, we didn't think twice about going next door to ask if they had an extra egg or some flour.
Riding on my awesome banana seat bicycle that was a beautiful rainbow and it had a sun on the seat to boot!
Being a brownie and going camping and having sleepovers
Finding all of our pets - my dog, Clancy, I found when I was about 5 and he was an irish setter/newfoundland mix. He weighed over 100lbs and could knock me down with his tail. And yet, I brought him home and let him in the house and he didn't want to come back out! I still miss that dog - he was like my very own big, red dog.
Going to my neighbor's house, there was a lady there who lived alone and she would make me lunch and I would sit on her screened in porch and visit with her. Sometimes her granddaughter would come over and I would play operation with her or some other game.
Picking up the different colored leaves for a school project.
Playing outside, skating, or riding our bikes until the streetlights came on.
Doing gravestone rubbings.
Camping, I really miss that. I haven't been camping in years. We had a regular tent for awhile, and then a pop up camper. Also, loved driving from Detroit to Tucson - it was such a great experience just getting there.
Going to the apple orchards and having the hay rides and then the cider and donut at the end.
Running through the sprinklers.
Block parties/parades.
Cracker Jacks
I'm sure I have many more.

cause we couldnt afford to by one.
