PBM with DIEP in March 2010

After a year of consults with breast surgeons, plastic surgeons and oncologists I have finally found my 'team' and am now scheduled for my PBM with DIEP reconstruction in March. It is a relief to have that part done. Right now I am doing just fine, but I know that by mid-February I will be really stressing.

Truly, I couldn't have done it without all of your help and support and guidance. Without you I wouldn't have known where to start. I have confidence in my 'team' and want this behind me.

I've read alot of breast cancer survivor books, but none has really clicked. Are there any books that really talk about the whole decision making process for a PBM?

Congratulations on having your surgery booked. It is such a difficult decision to come to, but I keep reading the stories of ladies that have gone that way, and how happy they are that they did, and never look back. What a great feeling that would be.

I haven't read this book, but have heard good things about it. It's a slightly different circumstance than yours because it deals with a gal with the BRCA gene, but you might find things in it to which you could relate. If this link doesn't work, the title of the book is: "Pretty is What Changes" by Jessica Queller.

Joanie, there is a lot of information and support on the FORCE board that may help you as well. I did read Jessica's book and it's very good.

Thanks. I have read "Pretty is What Changes" and some other books geared for husbands by husbands, which were helpful. I am moving forward, but I just wish I fit into a well-defined group: 51 year old adoptive moms of young children with LCIS, ALH, ADH, family history choosing to do PBM. I do appreciate all the LCIS members who have responded to my posts over the past year. It is your support and encouragement that has lifted me in my moments of indecision.
