Supplements for healing after mastectomy?
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for supplements/vitamins to take to aid in healing after mastectomy? I am about a month post bilateral mx and would like to find some supplements to aid in the scar tissue, skin and nerve repairs.
TIA for any suggestions.

A well-balanced diet is going to help with any healing. Add a dash of extra protein to rebuild healthy tissue. Drink plenty of fluids.
Massage the scars perpendicularly to help prevent scar tissue building up.
Virtually no supplements have been proven to aide in anything other than making money for Big Herba.

Hi, Mlrbelle:
Perhaps you haven't come across this fantastic information from Nan. OK, most of this is expected to help BEFORE surgery. However, perhaps you will be able to look into some of these supplements for support AFTER surgery as well, maybe with the help of your health care team?
When my daughter had an ultrasound in May of 2007, the radiologist's reading was a "fibroadenoma cyst". After a screwed up surgery, where the surgeon cut in to the "cyst", and did not get clean margins, he discovered it was a malignant tumor. The dx was TNBC. After reading this article in the December issue of Life Extension magazine, I am determined to let every woman/person I know, that possibly what their surgeons are doing is causing metastasis. This article has 102 references, and if a surgeon does not follow these procedures/protocol, then if it was me, I would find a surgeon who shared my philosophy on "first do no harm". How I wish for my daughter Lori's sake, that we could go back in time, but sadly we cannot.

This is the last paragraph in this article...
As this article was going to press, a dedicated team of clinical oncologists and researchers are preparing a meticulous report on the optimal doses of nutrients and drugs that a cancer patient should consider during the pre- and post-operative period. You can obtain a free copy of this report by logging on to our Cancer Surgery Special Report or calling 1-800-841-5433.
I know it's hard (I also had a mastectomy), so please take care of yourself.

I would take some spirulina or chlorella for natural amino acids + c-vitamins and be sure to get enough zink in the food - brewers yeast has some (+ amino acids) and seafood and pumpkin seeds is good sources. And of course omega 3 - always omega 3.. and delta & gamma tocotrienols - in vitrio studies show they fight cancer too

Also homeopathic calendula helps preventing scars and infection, while hyphericum is good for healing nerves. c 30 is good in both
