    Shirley,

I do not think you reported my post, and  I have nothing against you personally.  You did not use WorldnetDaily, someone else did.

Shirley, you should use any source you want, and you do not have to justify it to me or anyone else.  I may disagree with your point of view, but I respect you and your right to express your opinions.

I want this situation to stop.  I will do my part in ending this tension.  I do not want this situation to result in the removal of the thread that you started or any other thread on this board.  I firmly believe that we (everyone-right/center/left) should have the right to express our opinions.

I do not think many of the posts that were "removed by the community" should have been censored.  The original post that I wrote was written to someone whose post was unfairly censured, and I expressed my opinion about the unfairness of the reporting, and my views on what was being written.  However, since my post can also be read as insulting to you and others, I will delete it.  I do not want to write anything or do anything that escalates this further.

To conclude, I do not think you reported my posts.  You have every right to use whatever source you want.  I do not want any thread or comment deleted.  I have absolutely nothing against you, and I wish only the best for you and everyone on this board.

I ask only one thing: if one of my posts, or a post from someone else on this board, offends or upsets someone, perhaps we could put our "big-girl panties" and either ignore the comment or tell the poster that their post is inappropriate, hurtful, crosses the line, etc in a friendly PM.

By the way, I DO NOT hate conservatives.  I am married to a conservative, and I love him dearly.  I may disagree with his views (often/always!), but I wouldn't trade him for the world.

    Take care,

    Mary

P.S. I do not know why my posts tend to be in italics lately or why the font changes.  If anyone can help me with that, I would appreciate it.

I'm sitting here shaking my head, baffled and disillusioned.  The moderators have weighed in and asked us to cool the political discussions, but in a very one-sided fashion.

The "health care in America vs. other countries" thread is a haven for reasoned discussion and useful resources . .  . so it's been placed on notice.  Sarah Palin is invited to share her health care expertise with Canadians, inspiring a thread (funny, to my mind; not so funny, to others; sharp at times, but respectful) on the Canadian "room" on the board . . . it's been placed on notice, too.

Meanwhile, over on the (misleadingly titled) "What Americans Think of the Health Care Bill/s" thread, we're treated to homophobic links, references to "union thugs," etc. etc..  Has that thread been placed on notice?  Nope.

I'm so disgusted right now, I can barely type this.

I am supremely disillusioned and confused.  I have no problem with the Mods telling us to stop the political discussion, and yet one hotbed of controversy does NOT get a Moderator message, AND the posters are back at it minutes after the Mods tell everyone else to stop!!

    What is going on here???!!

The latest messages on this thread  are not  dealt with.  Messages from individual to the Mods are not answered.  Certain people are "reported." Certain people get penalized.

    What is going on here???

Are there certain rules for some, and other rules for others?  Do certain members have more privileges?

    What is going on here???

Can someone please explain this to me?

    covertanjou -

Since you are fairly new here, thought I would fill you in just in case you're not aware of this.  The mods gave the community the power to ban people - if three people report a post it is deleted.  There's another rule - if you have a certain number of posts deleted, you're automatically put on restriction.  I think it's five.  That means you're temporarily banned.  If the problem continues, you're permanently banned.

My guess is that several people wrote the mods and complained about the two Canadian threads - the mods don't keep up with the threads unless they're alerted to a problem.

And if you have just one post deleted, you're restricted to five posts per day.

FYI - the American health care thread was put on notice also.

    Desdemona -

Nope!  Not kidding.  It can be quite a weapon for those who choose to use it.

That What Americans Think thread is mostly conflict free because they have rousted out all who would disagree with their . . . viewpoints (I had a few adjectives there, but left them out).

Wow, Lewing and Covertanjou. I certainly share your distress. It's really a shame watching this board take such a rightward shift. I guess I had expected fair treatment. Certainly this is not a reflection of where the American people are. And, of course, this is supposed to be an international board.

Anyone who is not a tea bagger has abandoned the "American" thread so, of course, it's gone quiet over there. But nobody censored any of them. I don't understand why we're not allowed the same courtesy on the Canadian thread. It's quite civil on that list, so why can't we be left alone.

I just don't understand why the owners of this board think that allowing such bad behavior is a good idea.

    Rico,

The mods posted notes on most of the political threads.  The notes are fair since they ask that we stop the political talk since it gets too heated.  I have no problem with this if this is the rule for everyone.

They are also working on not automatically penalizing members to 5 posts a day simply because some people decide they don't like what is written.
