CALLING ALL STAGE I SISTERS

Damn, I went to CVS and forgot to get the B12,
-
Because we were excited about our dessert.
Maybe I take another one. Why not?
-
I have to pick some more up tomorrow too. I get it at walmart (wallworld). They are always bogo!
-
Why is is so many are Vitamin D deficient? Winter hibernation? Sunscreens in summer? I haven't even had mine tested yet, but want to. I was at GYN doc, and he does annual bloodwork as well, but he said they don't check for Vit. D. Will have to ask primary care doc (or one of the many others, I guess.) Which docs are testing you for Vit. D levels?
I take chewable Caltrate + D, but what is the difference between that and D3? I like B-12 for the extra energy too.
-
Elimar...Where did you get the chewable one. Swallowing that piece of rock takes few attempts.
-
I was amazed that I was vit d deficient. Although I live in the northeast, I walk outside year round about 3 miles a day. I am also very active with my boys outdoors, year round. I eat salmon a couple times a week, drink milk, eat yogurt, etc. I also take calcium with d and a multi with d in it. Doesn't make sense, but i'm glad we found it. My primary did the routine blood work at my phsical a few weeks ago.
I have read a lot about vit d in the past few weeks and it seems that a lot of BC patients are deficient in it. Have yours checked out!
-
Got the Chewable Caltrate at Walgreen's. So what is different about Vit. D3?
-
I think D2 is plant based and is not very effective for people. D3 is much better. Google it and you will see tons of info.
-
Mekraz, I don't know how long I have been in the 30's, I think it was 37 to be exact, still too LOW... I just remember when they tested me at the very beginning they said I was VERY deficient but I didn't know there was a number associated with it. I am going to ask when I go back to my onc to see the progress from the beginning. I've also had melanoma, age 23... can you believe it! So, I have been sheltered from the sun using a lot of sunless tanning products over the years. With this said, I still am very acive, just very protective when I am in the sun.
I will have to pick up some B12 next time I am out.
Deb- You are hilarious.
Getting excited, hosting a Christmas Eve party, started out being 20 or so people, just went up to almost 30!!!! More good times in the pipeline.
-
Elimar - I had my vita D tested by my oncologist - at my request.
It was 23, now 55.
Any doctor can test for it.
I think a lot of people are deficient, but it does really seem like a lot of BC patients are deficient.
-
Nicole, that's terrible! 23 is so young!
Aprilgirl, how long did it take for your level to go from 23 to 55? How did you raise it?
-
The most accurate way to measure how much vitamin D is in your body is the 25-hydroxy vitamin D test. In the kidney, 25-hydroxy vitamin D changes into an active form of the vitamin. The active form of the vitamin can be measured through the blood. The active form of vitamin D helps control calcium and phosphate levels in the body. The normal range is 30.0 to 74.0 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL). A lower level indicates vitamin D deficiency, which you should discuss with your doctor.
This is what I learned to do today
-
Good job Sheila!!
My dr told me the normal range is from 50-100, but you would want to be closer to 100. When I look on the internet, the info is different at every different website. I think the info is changing as we are discussing it.
Good night my friends. Pleasant dreams!
-
Sheila, you are so informative!!!
-
Nicole..Thank you. I really like to play with my PC.
I didn't know how to copy an article and paste it here. My DD in Hawaii explained it me today.
Sorry if I sound like if I did something so important. But I really get excited with my little toy here.
It opened so many opportunities for me.
-
What is D3? I think my prescription is Vit D... what is the 3????
-
Makraz - I took 4,000 iu of vitamin D3 daily for about 3 months. A year ago my level was 23. I did not take vitamin D thru chemo (got conflicting info although it probably would have been fine) which was from January to the end of June. I started taking the 4,000 in mid August and had my level tested in mid November.
Nicole - I have read (on here) that D3 is the one we need, but don't have an answer for you!
-
Good Night All
-
For my BC sisters Kbug and Foots.
Get better soon.
Sheila
-
G'Mornin' gals!
-
Thanks April, I hope I have similiar results!
My dr told me D3 is the important one too.
Good morning.
-
Good morning!!!
-
Wow - I was away for the weekend and had three pages to catch up on!
Welcome to our new ladies!
I've found a yummy way to get my calcium and vitamin D. Viactiv chews in milk chocolate flavor are very easy to take. Kind of like a Tootsie Roll and it has 125% of your vitamin D in each chew.
-
Oooh carolinachick, that sounds yummy! I will have to check that out. Where do you get them?
-
I just looked at the viactiv website, but can't find which D they contain. Does the package say? D2 or d3?
-
I see they also have carmel flavor. That sounds yummy too.
-
Exchange surgery tomorrow. Looking forward to having this part over but a little nervous. Always get nervous about anesthesia! Don't know what time yet, hospital will call today to let me know. I think this is so weird how they do things here. Guess they figure you wouldn't plan anything for the day anyway. Just hope they don't have trouble finding a vein. They keep it so cold in there, it's rediculous.
Gina- glad you're feeling better. I have heard that it does take a while for things to even out. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. I told myself that as long as they look Ok in a bra that I'll be happy but the truth is, until you're there, you don't know how you'll react.
On a better note, went kyaking yesterday with DH since weather was perfect. Who knows how long it will be before we can go again. Not exaclty sure what limitations will be this go around. I really have to try to remember to ask. I keep forgetting, my mind isn't what it used to be. (and I'm only 44)
Need to go do shopping and misc stuff. Have a great day ladies!

For VegasDiva: I had Cytoxan and Taxotere for my chemo (which was 4 treatments, 3 weeks apart). Never had any vomiting or nausea because they gave me pills before treatment and pills to take after I got home for 3 days. That was a fear of mine, too. I simply HATE vomiting. I had an allergic reaction to the Cytoxan at my 3rd treatment and had to take Prednisone for a week, which delayed my final session. All in all, the chemo itself wasn't too bad--the main side effects were hair loss, major fatigue, and itching. I won't lie--the hair loss was very upsetting to me. My last treatment was Aug 27 and I still only have about 1 inch of hair so I'm wearing a wig to work. Boo. Hope to have my reconstruction in the spring--I'm going to do implants. In the meantime, I'm wearing breast forms Mon-Fri (no boobs on the weekends). They look ok, but are heavy and itchy.
On the positive side, my energy is returning. I did a major cleaning job this weekend--top to bottom, plus laundry, decorating, and grocery shopping. My chemo brain is starting to resolve and I'm not so forgetful and/or tongue tied, which is nice. I now have full range of motion of my right arm (where they took out the lymph nodes), and they removed my chemo port a couple of weeks ago--the scar isn't too bad.
Most of my Christmas shopping is done. May go out one night this week. Planning to bake cookies next weekend. Looking forward to the holidays. It's cold and snowy in Upstate NY!
-
Good morning everyone!
I take the milk chocolate Viactiv too. I get it at Walmart but it is sold at places like Target and drug stores also. The package says it has D3 but I don't really see an exact amount- it says 125% daily value of Vitamin D. On the side it says vitamin D 500IU per chew. The recommended dose is "one chew up to 2 times daily, with meals for optimal absorption." Hope this helps. TCK
-
You can also get Viactiv at Costco. I haven't tried the caramel flavor, but I'm betting it's yummy too!
VegasDiva - I also had Cytoxan and Taxotere, four rounds each three weeks apart. I had a little nausea, but never vomited. The Emend drug is wonderful! Just keep on top of the medications they give you. I put all of my drugs in a bowl on my kitchen counter with a note indicating when to take each of them.
Susu - Congrats on your energy returning. I finished chemo back in April, but still have days that I feel tired, along with a little lingering chemo-brain. At least that's what I'm hoping it is...I'm only 45 and sometimes feel so scatterbrained, especially when I'm searching for a word. Thank goodness it doesn't seem to have affected my number-crunching ability since I'm a bean counter by profession!
