Just wondering

Options

Hi all,

I recently had a bone mets scare due to back ache. The bone scan showed a suspicious area in the thoraic region.  This was followed by an inconclusive mri, and a clear pe/ct , blood work is also normal.

I still have the backache, but also have a pain low down on the right side beyond the abdomen.

I haven't mentioned this to my onc but am wondering if this could be connected to the back ache and wondered if anyone had any thoughts??

Maybe this was a womb/uterus/liver problem???

If it was would it have shown on the pet does anyone know??

I'm seeing my onc next Wed but would appreciate any idea's:)

What you describe sounds more like a nerve issue than a liver/uterus problem.  The backache can be from irritation to the nerve roots where they come out of the spinal cord--no bony abnormality to show up on scans, etc, but a little bit of nerve root swelling can cause a lot of pain.  The pain usually runs down one side of the body.  If the pain goes through your buttock or down the leg it's probably sciatic nerve pain.  While the sciatic neve comes out of the spinal cord lower than the thoracic level, it can cause pain above the lumbar area.

To answer your second question most scans are limited in area, so the lower pelvic organs probably weren't scanned.  But you should ask your onc to review the report with you to be sure.

Thanks so much for your reply, I'm seeing my onc this week and will speak to her then about it.

As to the backache it does run down one side at the back of my thigh so I'm beginning to think sciatica is definatly the cause.

    Thanks again!
