Radiated skin and sun exposure?

I finished my radiation this past Monday. YAHOO!  My husband and I are planning a post-cancer journey trip in january to a tropical location and I was wondering about being in the sun with radiated skin.  Does anyone know if this is okay if i wear a high SPF?  I hid from the sun all summer because of the side effects from the meds from chemo, etc so now is my time to have some fun in the sun.

 Let me know if you know anything about this topic.

    I thought I would try to answer since you got no response.

    When I was considering lumpectomy and rads, I was concerned about sun exposure since I live in South Florida. My doctor said that I would have to keep the radiated area out of the sun and covered up for a full year. Maybe you could talk to your rads doctor??

    Have a good vacation but be careful about too much sun exposure.

    My understanding is the same as Baywatchers. That skin has to be seriously protected.

    Hi fighting,

    Like you, last year when I finished rads, I just wanted to go on vacation and leave all of this cancer crap behind.  I finished rads on November 12th and left for Hawaii on November 17th.  I bought one of those SPF sun shirts and wore it over the top of my bathing suit.  I also wore a bathing suit that covered the majority of the radiated area and I had no problems at all.  I put SPF of 50 on as well just to be cautious, but it was well worth it to be in a sunny place. 

    Just be careful, but have fun!

    My rads finish Dec.21.We are going on a cruise to the carribean January.The RO told me to use higher than spf 30 paba free, on all radiated areas.The rest of me I can use my usuall sunscreen,because I do want some color.She told me to look for solumbra clothing,that blocks sun.So I might get a top with that.
