I agree completely with Mary. Both of us got censored for simply repeating back what other people had written and expressing our distaste for those opinions. But the posts that contained those original opinions go unchallenged.
There's something fundamentally wrong with this.
-
I cannot believe my post was removed!!! This has got to STOP!!!!
MODS PLEASE ADDRESS THIS!!
I AM REPOSTING MY POST. THOSE "REPORTING" ARE SIMPLY REINFORCING MY POINT THAT SOMETHING MUST BE DONE:
I am debating about whether or not to post this. On the one hand I think that was is happening with posts removed by the community and bannings has to be addressed. On the other hand, I realize that rocking the boat is not always the best thing to do. I often post on the Canadian Healthcare Thread. Although it is mostly Canadians who post there, we have many Americans and women from other countries who post there. They are all welcome. We write about Canadian issues, but we also joke and laugh. It is a great thread. There are times when we discuss current political issues. This means that the issue of American healthcare has come up. Some American women have sometimes felt that we (the Canadians) have bashed the US. I have apologized to those who may have felt offended, but I made it clear that we certainly do not hate Americans. As I stated earlier, many Americans post on this thread and they are welcome. I recently posted something on the Canadian thread that was removed by the community. I do not understand why my post was removed, and why I am on a 5 posts per day penalty, when other posters are allowed to write the most heinous and outlandish truths. My post that was removed by the community was in response to posts on another thread. I will post some of the posts I was reacting to FIRST - And NO OFFENSE...but this thread was created for the opinions of those who will be DIRECTLY affected by the possible changes to AMERICAN health care. Thanks! What's so wrong with asking others to comply with the topic? I was really hoping this thread would be a place to discuss the topic and not one of shoving posters into the unpleasant situation of having to defend their opinions, thoughts and concerns. 'm confused - Linda was reported because Sherry googled and could only find "far left crap". Then we are referred to a Sarah Palin site for translation of the bill and Shirley extols the wonders of Glenn Beck. Hmmm .... (I added this to show the hypocrisy of some "reporters". If someone posts something they disagree with, they "report." my son-in-law changed jobs due to losing his other job due to this economy. He is now teaching making 1/3 of the salary that his prior job paid. However, he likes what he's doing....teaching children (I call) at risk. Let's put it this way. The district he's teaching in is one where most these kids do not have parents who give a crap about what their kid is doing concerning grades in school. Single home parents, moving from this home to that home with different relatives until they get kicked out of that home...and on and on. They have so many opportunities to DO BETTER, but if first starts with the parents. I was thinking back to when I was a kid...we didn't have all these social programs (meals, tutoring blah blah)...if we didn't bring our sandwich or buy our lunch at school we didn't eat. I'm not mean enough to say we shouldn't feed our children. However, what the government has done is kept these poor folks down and that's all they'll ever be...poor! They don't feel the need to work and it goes across all racial lines. If the government's going to hand out money and food stamps for healthy individuals who can work...why work? I hope there is a program where people can work AND get help from the government if needed. Health care is just one more thing to make us depend on THEM. Stop making excuses for the irresponsible members of our society. Wake up and admit that they are absorbing the resources of our communities, cities, states and country. We have paid for the fixes...but the fixes have not happened. HELP ME and help all the hard working, tax paying, legal AMERICANS! Goof gawd... what part of this do you not understand? Continue to enable and coddle the thiefs and dependents and you will ALL be wishing you had done differently.Unfortuately, the sad truth is that you and your cronies, are not willing to assume responsibility. This is not a solution. It's a clever and deceitful way to gain control. It's called tyranny. Again, if BO and his thugs can find successful solutions to the fraud and corruption that is rampant within the existing agencies, then and only then, will I consider any of his or BIG GOV's proposals. If BO and his thugs TRULY cared about us...the little people, they would declare a state of emergency concerning those who are not being treated or dying. But instead, BO puts on his knight in shining armor outfit and declares a state of emergency for the H1N1! e-ful & r-co - I refuse to respond to either of you. You obviously have a hidden agenda...one in which I will simply not subject myself to. You need to "step up to the plate" and go bye-bye. Create your own little thread - Touche! The dems get all happy cuz they think they've pulled the wool over our eyes. Some of us are to damned smart for that. The numbers DO NOT ADD UP. And if anyone thinks they do they're living in la la land. Also, IMHO, this is all set up for us to go to a single-payer system. We know Obama wants it. We know Purple Barney wants it. I strayed off topic because I see the Progressive Socialist Democrat Marxist party as having an AGENDA! They want government run everything and I'm sick of it. And that didn't come from Fox! I don't watch MSNBC cuz that station's a joke. Promise: Hope Deliver: Despair Promise: Transparency Deliver:Closed-door deals with Big Pharma and contributors Promise: Sustainable budgets Deliver: Historically outrageous spending Promise: Fix Medicare Deliver: Bust Medicare with $470 billion in cuts Promise: Health Reform Deliver: Health debacle Promise: Opportunity Deliver: Joblessness Promise: CSpan to air health debates Deliver: I can't seem to tune that in... I wonder why folks are getting testy over this performance? He asked us to judge him by the people with whom he surrounds himself; then proceeded to surround himself with felons, tax scofflaws, avowed communists, Union thugs, and Chicago self-dealing profiteers. He may consider himself judged as he suggested. I am personally offended by these posts. However, I DID NOT REPORT ANY OF THEM! This is the post I wrote that was removed : Linda, That particular thread has degenerated into a hate-fest. Some people are actually using WorldNetDaily as a source! That site is at the forefront of the birther movement, and posits the view that the Obama administration is setting up concentration camps!!! There is also a new strain of anti-semitism that is growing on the thread. It is really hateful and exclusionary. Some of the posters have made it pretty clear that they don't want any dissenting views; hence, you being censored. It is unbelievable that it is allowed. Did what I write go against any rules? How does what I wrote go against the rules of this board? I was writing to someone whose post had also been removed by the community because it went against what some repost this post pushers disagreed with. Yet, I am reported and banned. This is so unfair. I am not asking for anyone to be banned, or for any thread to be removed. I am simply asking that when someone is, IMHO, unjustly banned that there should be a way to get our post back on the board and not be penalized because some people don't want to read dissenting opinions. Mods, I know how hard you work to make this board such a great place; however, the unfairness of reporting and banning must be addressed. Thank you, Mary Edited to try to fix the format -
Way to go Mary.
-
Do the Mods know who reports the posts? Do they know how many posts a person had reported? This would be good information to help stop this problem.
-
Mary, you are so right - and I'm happy and proud to use one of my two remaining posts to say so.
The hateful invective and links to HATE SITES that are polluting this board are bad enough. The fact that people who take issue with the hate are being censored and restricted from posting is a travesty.
It's very sad that some of us (myself included) no longer feel we can recommend this site to newly-diagnosed women.
Please, Moderators, fix this!
Linda

Amen, Mary!.....I could not have said it better!.......

PatMom and true grit -
Having more than one ID is not against the written rules, but I believe the Moderators are working to fix this. The Moderators have asked me to use only one ID, and I chose enjoyful and asked them to delete the others. I hope other users on the board do the same.

Very, very, very good point Mary!!!!! Your post should never have been removed, nor should you ever have been limited to a 5 posts per day penalty, simply because those on the "other side" ganged up on you. NOT FAIR!!!!!
Rinna40, responding to your question on whether or not the mods know who is reporting the posts ... according to them they do .. as posted on the thread that objected to 'activern' being banned unjustly:

I wrote Melissa yesterday and complained about the threads in question. They don't have anything to do with helping someone get through treatment and I feel very strongly that political threads do not belong here. There are literally hundreds of other areas on the web where people can rant and rave about health care reform. I personally am so sick of the subject I could go nuts - for months, it seems all you hear about is health care reform. I can't imagine what a woman who need help getting through treatment must think when she goes to that topic and sees such a controversial thread.
-
Ditto Madalyn. I couldn't say it any better.
Desdemona, there are topics that I will not visit because the annoy me. Just pass them by. There is a lot of other ones to read.
-
The health care reform discussion is pure politics, mostly extreme right wing. It has nothing whatsoever to do with helping someone through treatment. At least put the discussion in a social area instead of "Help Me Through Treatment."
-
Extreme right wing??? Wow, just wow! It almost sounds like that is the main reason you don't like the thread. So, if the views were more liberal or agreed with your views, then it would be okay? Just wondering. Why bring up the 'extreme right wing' into it?
-
If you want your question answered, go read the thread, particularly the posts over the past few weeks, and you'll get your answer. The forum is dominated by right-wingers who are sarcastic and nasty to anyone who disagrees with them. I object to political discussions in this area period, but I don't think anyone can reasonably say that thread is not dominated by right-wingers, maybe not all extremist.
-
So what if it is? The very fact that you want the thread removed because you think the posts are dominated by right wing opinion is the very censorship that is being complained about. Maybe the thread could be moved to another forum but to ask to have the thread removed because you don't agree with the viewpoint of most of the posts? Well, that's a slippery slope, now isn't it?
-
You need to calm down.
-
LMAO! I'm calm. You're the one who wants to delete an entire thread because you are afraid of the opinion in the majority of the posts. There is nothing to fear.
As far as I can see, what you want (delete a thread because the majority of posts are of an opinion you don't like) or using the community report tool to remove a single post you don't like? Its all the same. Censorship.
-
No one, least of all me, is asking for any thread to be deleted or moved.
I, and many others, are angry that it seems to be the center/left of center posts that are "reported" and "removed by the community. Why were the posts using WorldNetDaily, Beck, Palin, Fox, etc as sources not "removed by the community" but a post that referred to Huffington Post was! Again, why? Why was the post that used an article from Huffington Post removed?
I do not believe in censorship. That is why, despite the fact that I STRONGLY disagree with many of the sentiments on a particular thread, I do not report the posts.
On another note, I would like to thank all the women who have written here and elsewhere who have supported me. It means the world to me.
Now, let's see how long this post stays up before it is "removed by the community."
-
Mary, I agree with you that posts should not be removed just because you don't like the opinon expressed. It's censorship and all views should be heard.
Desdemona has stated that she asked the moderators to remove the thread so you are incorrect when you said that no one has asked for a thread to be deleted or removed.
I wrote Melissa yesterday and complained about the threads in question. They don't have anything to do with helping someone get through treatment and I feel very strongly that political threads do not belong here.
-
I'm not here to fight with you, lavendar. I'm entitled to my opinion without being subjected to your sarcasm and high-flung rhetoric. It is not censorship to disallow topics that are not germaine to the subject of these forums.
-
Health care discussion is very appropriate, timely, and relative, especially for those of us who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. There was no sarcasm in my posts. Only rational thought and logic.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even those on the thread you find so distasteful. Even those who you feel are 'extremist right wing.' These people pay taxes, vote, and participate in society just the same as you and I. While I may not agree with their opinion, I would never deny them the right to free expression that I wish to claim for myself.
It IS censorship to disallow topics based soley on the premise that you feel that the majority of the posts on the thread are, in your words, 'extremist right wing.' Otherwise, you are guilty of the very thing you complain about from the other side. Censorship.
There can be no dialog if we refuse to listen and respect the other.
-
Desdemona, I hear you, and am as disturbed as you at some of the stuff that's been posted on the "Americans" thread. But I really don't think removing threads is the answer. I think the answer is to allow a diversity of views - and because of the censorship (which, LnL, *is* only coming from one direction), that's not happening. So much for dialog.
As for moving the thread - I agree, it's not really in an appropriate section, but that's true of a lot of threads here. Things start up in one place for some idiosyncratic reason or another, and there they stay. It's really only a problem if you're browsing for a particular topic and it's not in the expected place.
Since I'm one of the "censorees" who's restricted and won't be able to post for another few hours after I submit this post, I'm going to shift gears here. (I actually wrote this earlier, then discovered I wasn't able to post, so I'm pasting this from the clipboard. Forgive me if the formatting is messed up as a result.)
I think the most insidious and frightening thing about this whole censorship episode is the extent to which it's "lurkers" who are doing the censoring. That wasn't true in my case (my deleted post was in direct response to another post, and was deleted by that poster and her buddies because they disagreed with it) -- but it's definitely true for Mary.
One of two things is going on:
(a) Some individuals on this board have WAAAAY too much time on their hands, and are reading every post on every thread, looking for things they don't like; or
(b) Some individuals on this board are stalking other women, following them from thread to thread and reporting their posts.
The first is despicable and pitiful. The second is despicable, pitiful and *scary*.
(Ten, nine, eight, seven . . . starting the countdown until this post is deleted.)
Linda
P.S. The references to "union thugs" that have appeared on the "American"s thread are personally insulting to me and the other women on this board who are proud to be active in our unions. I have not reported those posts; however, I'd respectfully ask the posters involved to stop the insults.
-
I wish the people who report posts would be identified. Or a reported post not be deleted until reviewed by a moderator. Absolutely every opinion should be allowed to be posted. It is quite unfortunate that it seems that posts that are center or left of center are being censored. It is logical to assume it is a right-wingers doing the censoring -- those patriotic, flag waving right-wingers that love the American constitution who are the censors.....hmmmm, don't they realize they are being disrespectful to the Consitution and its values? Sounds like they do not respect American freedom at all. And it is unfortunate for the many right-wing people here that are being smeared by the actions of a few.
-
I am so angry at the post reporters that I think that those who report a post simply that they disagree with an opinion be banned after a few warnings. Yes, banned. If you can't act like a responsible, mature adult, well, bugger off. I'm sick and tired of this.
-
Ladies, I want you to know we do not know who are reporting your posts. One poster said in advance that she was going to report the post to the mods. She was not a "coward" and said it before she actually reported it. Then, later she again "fessed up" to reporting the thread she said she was going to report. Please don't give people the impression that we are reporting all the posts you seem to think we are. I say "we" because we are the ones posting on that evil, hate-mongering site.
Now, I have to explain to you ladies that we do not hate the poor. Hell, I'M POOR! What we have tried to explain, maybe not so well, is when one has lived on and have seen their parents on welfare all their lives that makes one dependant on the government. We're not talking about people who are in hard times and need help. Those people usually go back to work and get on their feet. And, I have no problem with the government helping the poor...believe me....I've known my share of poor people.
We do not think all people who live off the government are lazy and worthless. I believe in this country people know who we are referring to. I see my post re-posted here about my son-in-law that is now teaching making 1/3 of the salary he was making due to the down turn in this economy. He worked for a small developed properties. At the time he lost his job he was working on Walgreens. And, as I mentioned in my post, he works in a district that have underprivileged children...and he loves his work...he wants to make a difference in these kids lives...and he's a man which I think will help because so many of these children have no examples of men in their lives. He tells them what he expects of them. He does things that makes the class interesting. He teaches 7th grade math. I almost cried when he was telling me about the students who could not read as well as MY 1ST GRADE GRANDDAUGHTER who is reading at a 3rd grade level! Now, ladies, who's damned fault is it that these children being neglected!!!??? Yes! Neglected! I want them to have a good life. Bill Cosby got bashed for coming out and speaking the truth. These students do have opportunities they can use at the schools, but who movtivates them at home? No one. I told him before he started teaching (he had big expectations for himself) that it's not the kids...it's the parents. And that means across ALL racial lines. He just happens to teach minorities. And he loves them and, again, wants them to succeed.
So, please don't twist our words and think we dislike poor people OR minorities. They need motivation, but somewhere in their lives no one motivated them and the story just continues until someone decides I want more...I'm getting out!
BTW, I will toot Sherri's horn. Yesterday if you noticed she didn't post. She was volunteering..taking blankets or whatever to people who live under bridges. She can tell you more. Many of these people are drug addicts, veterans, and alcholics. It breaks her heart to see people living like this. Yesterday I told her I hoped she received a blessing. You see, when one does something kind and generous that person receives the blessing.
And, because we use sites that you do not agree with, is that okay? We must choose our references with whom we agree. It would be silly if you do not agree with Glenn Beck. Oh, yes, he did a good one on ACORN. But don't worry...they're going to get their funding. They have cleared themselves.
Anyway, whoever is reporting your posts..we are not following you around and having your posts deleted. As I've said many times...I don't report posts. I don't care what you say to me I won't report your posts. I wear big girl panties and can take care of myself.
Shirley

BTW, I didn't proof read my post...don't know how many stupid mistakes I made. I don't have time..I need to do some cleaning before my dd and her dh come in. Have a good time. I think you need to let this go. It happened before to many of us. We finally had to "suck it up"
Shirley

One more thing about "freedom of speech." Do you remember when the WH wanted people to report "fishy" info to a certain government website. They wanted to know what people at our kitchen table was saying..they wanted you to report "fishy" emails all in the "we want to correct the lies." That is not what government is for. Freedom of speech is just that...say what you want. As far as I'm concerned you've got it here.
-
I do agree that Sherri should be recognized for saying that she has reported a post. I wish everyone was that considerate. Regardless of whether I agree or not, Sherri has shown class in doing so. And I think Shirley is a class act too -- we agree to disagree and like each other no matter our opinions on this and that.
Elizabeth

Well, frankly my dears......I don't give a damn! what people write / say... If I read it and don't like it...oh well. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just move on forward....REAL SIMPLE!!
Individuality is an awesome thing. We are each entitled to be our own individual self. As grown-ups, aren't we mature enough to agree that it's ok to disagree??
-
Linda, as always you eloquently state what is going on. There are indeed lurkers who enjoy reporting posts and getting people banned. There is absolutely no reason why my post on this thread was reported other than to get me banned. I did not write anything that goes against the rules of this board. Some people act like bullies trying to stifle any dissenting opinions.
As Desdemona writes, since the reporting is all one way, how can we not come to the conclusion that the center/left of center is being targeted? Do you see anyone else's posts removed?
Shirley, I never accused you of reporting me.
Elizabeth, I think your idea of banning the post reporters. This would make force them to do what the rest of us do: ignore posts we disagree with.
Sunris, I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion. So why am I, and so many others, not entitled to ours? Why are our posts the ones being targeted?
-
Mary, I have no idea why anyone would want to delete your post. It could be someone completely different than those of us who have had our disagreements about health care. If that's the case it is a shame.
You see, you re-posted some of my opinions here. That made me think that you were pointing the finger at me. And we have to agree that where we get our info from is the people with whome we agree. I don't use WorldNet Daily for a sole source of info. I don't think anyone does. I don't use Beck as my sole sourse of info. I like to investigate what he is saying. And whether you agree with him or not, he has brought out some big guns. And some of the guns have stepped down. Do you not find that odd. If he was ALL wrong why don't they tell him exactly what he's reporting that IS wrong. Not just make jabbs. The WH told CNN (and other "legit" news networks) not to follow Fox. Isn't that rather strange. They were so angry that Fox helped break the ACORN story. Whether you want to believe it or not, ACORN is not ALL good. Look up the ACORN 8. Did you know about the $million embezzlement? And what ACORN did about it? The ACORN 8 wants ACORN to go back to their "good" works. There's so much corruption and they want them investigated and they are brave souls.
