Not sure what to think???

I had my yearly mri over 3 weeks ago, and I do not yet know the results. I've called my surgeon twice, and e-mailed her, asking her to just e-mail me the results. Nothing from the surgeon yet. I do not want to be a nuisance. I am hoping since they haven't contacted me that the mri shows no  recurring dcis or cancer. But, I need to know in order that I'm ok for another year.

Just feeling frustrated...knowing would at least get this off my mind. So, what would you do if you were in my situation. Barry

    HI Barry - I would keep trying to contact the surgeon to get those results - there must be someone in the office who can at least tell you the surgeon's schedule - even if they are not allowed to tell you your results - you are not being too persistent - just very diligent about your health which is something anyone should appreciate given that they ordered the MRI in the first place and not for fun!! Sorry Barry, advice - keep trying and good luck :)

    Three weeks is unacceptable to me, I'd have been standing at their reception desk by now.  No way could I handle more than a week, maybe two at the most.  Three?  No way.

    Can you call the radiology department and ask for a copy of your results to be faxed to you directly?   Or ask your surgeon's nurse or PA or receptionist or whomever to send you a copy of the report?

    I would find another doctor and have my records forwarded to him/her. Three weeks is unacceptable, no matter how busy she may be.

    Hi Barry - really understand how complex this issue is about getting help for the longer term - but there is that shorter term need to know what the report has said. I know what you mean about not pushing too hard - however, 3 weeks is a longish time - even if there is (and I am praying this is the case) nothing wrong - you would have to be inhuman NOT to be very anxious and any doctor who deals with this disease should have processes in place to ensure that they get their patients the information they need so the patient can breathe again! You are not being a nuisance - you are being responsible. Also, if the dr doesn't have a good feedback loop now - it may be tough going for future care....

    You can have the report sent to more than one doctor -- any other oncologist you see, your gyn, your pcp.  Then you can get the results from whoever is best at communication without having to find a new breast surgeon.

    Yea! Results are negative...I can keep my breast.
