How about everyone chip in for a whole new story

this morning I haven't been able to find Harley, the housekeeper said she hadn't seen her either but her car is still here. She either is exploring this huge haunted house or hiking the bluffs or walking the beach. Surely she would never do the time machine without someone watching out for her. I am kind of scared. Ate blueberry pancakes and decided to walk down to the beach. A huge long haired red dog ran straight at me and I just covered my face and screamed. A man came running toward me hollaring she won't hurt you. I said, "what in the world kind of dog is that!" He explained to me that is it an Irish wolf hound and she was very friendly. He told me that is how he makes a living he breeds them and owns a kennel a few miles down the beach and he always walks a few miles each day to stay in shape. He was very handsome in a rugged cowboy kind of way. He invited all of us in the house to visit and have coffee with him. I headed back to the house hoping jondy had come back and Harley was safe and Patoo would pedal in on her bike. I will have to buy that poor girl her own car when she gets here. After all I am rich.
-
Spar2, I don't want a car. The bike keeps me in shape. It's been a long ride but finally I'm here. Must say however that I don't want to stay in the house, especially if you have ghosts. I don't like big houses except to look at them from the outside. I prefer to stay in the little cabin I saw on the side of the house. Hope you will let me. Meantime, I'll just sit here on the porch and watch the waves across the beach. Maybe I'll even just put up a tent and stay on the beach.
-
Spar told patoo of course you can stay in the cabin, it is fixed up really cute and as far as I know there have been no ghost there but you can come in the house and have meals with us, the chef is wonderful. So happy you made safely. It would be fun to set up tents on the beach since it is not haunted anymore by the dog wolf. We could build up a fire and have a weiner roast and make smores and go to sleep with the sound of the waves in our ears. Lets talk to Harley and jondy when they get back. We would probably sit around on logs and talk all night. Come on in and lets have a cup of tea or coffee and the chicken salads the Chef made for lunch. I must say you look fantastic, you are in very good shape. I might have to buy myself a bike and give my car to charity.
-
...Harley didn't tell Spar, but she didn't want to go in that time machine by herself. She thinks that Spar is very brave to travel in time, all by herself...
She decided to go out and walk on the beach, because that is the way she really thinks best. So Harley just walked along the beach, and thought about what she was going to do next.
-
Today, Harley, Patoo, and me set up some tents on the beach with blow up air mattresses and big down comforters each to cuddle up in when the cold air comes in off the ocean. We got a big fire going and are just going to spend the afternoon and night visiting and eating and not even thinking about ghost or time machines. There is times for all of that later.
We cooked up some burgers and hotdogs. We had all kinds of sodas to drink. My personal fav is coke
Someone suggested telling scary stories we screamed NO. So we just talked about our families, getting to know each other. We discovered that we are all Christians and didn't understand this ghost thing. We understood that there are spirits out there. I always call mine my guardian angel. Hope jondy is back tomorrow. We miss her.
-
Patoo is so content just walking the beach when her knee and hip are not bothering her. Biking helped but now that I'm not doing it the aches are coming back. When they are hurting she is just as happy sitting on the porch watching Harley stroll along looking at seashells.
It was so nice and peaceful sleeping out on the beach. I think I will do that again tonight and hope Spar and Harley will join me. Looking forward to meeting Jondy when she returns.
-
We had a blast camping out on the beach, getting to know each other better. Finding some beautiful seashells and sea glass.
it has been fun but spar has been thinking of the excitement of traveling in that machine again and we haven't even explored all of the house yet. Missing jondy and wishing she would return to travel with me. I would like to hold hands with someone and travel together. Who wants to go with me?
-
spar went back to the house and decided to do some more exploring and looking through some of the chest. There was the little girl in the white gown sitting on a chest, I slowly walked up to her and she smiled at me and disappeared. I decided to go through the chest she was sitting on. When I opened it there were journals from several different generations of people. WOW, some of them mention their travels through the time machine. It has been here for centuries. This is amazing.
-
Harley enjoys walking on the beach, looking at the seashells. She also loves talking to Patoo and Spar, while they are waiting for Jondy to return.
All three, Spar, Patoo and Harley spent the afternoon reading from the journals. It was so interesting to read about these people from long ago!!
-
The journal Spar was reading was in the time of vampires, I do not want to go back to that time. It talked about how the people would find out who they were and pull out the coffins filled with dirt that they sleep in and when they opened the lid in sunlight they would turn to ash. They would even hunt them at night and drive a wooden peg through their heart. At the end of the journal it said there were very few vampires still living. that scared me I thought they were fiction. What if there are real ones in this day and age. Surely not, hope not, now I am uneasy.
-
Harley was also kind of scared, after reading the journals. She didn't think that there were any Vampires left. Maybe that is why she has been watching TruBlood, a show that is on HBO.
The girls are going to have to make a decision about what to do next. Harley is just happy to be there, and enjoy the time she's spending with her friends.
-
Harley and Patoo have been planning a surprise for Spar. They put together a little birthday celebration, with cake, ice cream, balloons, the works!!
-
When Spar came down from reading the journal she went to the kitchen to get a drink and got the surprise of her life. A surprise birthday party. It was so much fun, we even had party hats, the cake was wonderful with the ice cream. We decided to each take a balloon down to the beach and all make a wish and let our balloon go. It was fun watching them fly way above the sand and water. Then we started teasing each other about what we wished for......love, riches, a ride in a hot air balloon? LOL We just relaxed and had fun.
-
HARLEY and PATOO sang:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR SPAR, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!
-
Harley won't tell ANYONE what she wished for, when she let her balloon go, but she thinks that Patoo and Spar probably know what Harley's wish was....
-
I wouldn't be surprised if we all wished for the very same thing. An unselfish wish for the whole world. Harley and Patoo went to town to get some groceries and look in the little shops. I decided to time travel. I left them a note on the kitchen table so they would know where (sorta) I was.
I went down to the trunk and found a cute leopard print off the shoulder dress that was a little short but fit ok. I wore my shoes and underclothes. Got in the time machine and pushed the button. This time is wasn't like sliding down a laundry shoot, it was like a flash of lightening and I was on the ground. Boy, soon as I looked around I realized I made a big mistake. There was a caveman grunting at me to pick up this dead animal and come on. I thought he has got to be kidding I can't lift that. He was getting madder and madder so I got the animal by its legs and starting pulling it. That must have been the right thing to do because he kind of grinned and walked ahead of me. There was a huge, I mean huge cliff area with hundreds of caves in the cliff, some low, some high, and smoke was coming out of each one. This must be like a caveman apartment complex. I had my cell phone in my pocket and wondered if it was possible if it worked in time travel but would save the batteries for an emergency. My self said "self this is an emergency" I tried to call patoo and harley and no go. It didn't work but I noticed the clock on it still worked. Maybe that will come in handy. This caveman leading me lived in one of the lower caves so at least I didn't have to carry it up high. There were some kind of gourds hanging on the wall, animal skins to sleep on and even had some animal skins folded up for pillows. A fire was going in the center of the floor and the smoke was going out a small hole in the ceiling but some stayed in the cave. It was very cool in there and was wishing I had worn a jacket. If he pulls anything I will strip off my clothes in a second and hopefully get back home. He started cutting on the meat and was pointing at some sticks for me to bring him. He stuck a piece of meat on a stick for me and then one on a stick for him and stuck it in the fire. I guess meat on a stick is what's for supper..........
-
This was kind of like what it was like. We ate the meat on the stick and I wondered if they ate any fresh greens. The cave smelled pretty bad but if you were close to the opening it wasn't too bad. He started pulling me toward the bed which I though boy if takes my dress off is he in for a surprise. I was about ready to take it off myself and get out of there. I started laughing and when I did he jerked my dress over my head and bam! I was so thankful to be back in the time machine and back home. What an adventure. I wonder when one of the other girls are gonna get brave enough?
-
patoo thinks she's going to let spar2 have all the "fun" with the time machine. patoo is simply too much a scaredy cat. patoo is also extremely lazy and has only gone from beach to porch and back to beach with an occasional stop in the house for the bathroom and a snack. I do see that spar is having lots of fun on her adventures.

A letter arrives at the mansion ...
Dear Spar,
I wonder if you remember me from our childhood? I was the wacky artistic friend who loved ghost stories. Remember? In the green house? I heard of your cancer retreat project and recognized your name. I, too, am a cancer warrior, and I'd love to see you again. I'm taking a chance and will start cross-country this afternoon. It may take me a week or two ... I've been so tired from treatment that I'll be taking my time to enjoy the sights now that I'm able.
I'm bringing my painting things, in hopes of painting some ghosts.
Can't wait to see you again!
Your friend,
Gryffin
-
Harley is excited to see Gryffin, because.... SHE is from Maryland, too!!
(Hey there... I am from COLUMBIA, Maryland... I see you live in Bowie!! Welcome!!)
-
(Thanks Harley! I grew up here, and am coming home after decades away)
Gryffin spent the evening packing and went to bed atwitter with excitement. She hadn't traveled since her diagnosis, and was really looking forward to this trip. Little Merlin and Willow, her two rescued Italian greyhounds, picked up on her excitement and played with each other most of the night. Bleary eyed, she finally gave up around sunup and brought her bag down to her little volkswagon beetle. She put her camera equipment, dog things, and duffle in the trunk and some canvases and painting things in the back seat. At the last minute, she decided to put in some good sketch books, her pastels, and her pencils. She took a deep breath, looked at her packed yellow car, and smiled.
She went back into her cottage and leashed up her little ones. "Let's go Merlin, let's go Willow. Wanna walk?" The Italians ran to her, ears perked in excitement, dancing so crazily that she could barely get their leashes on. She took them for a walk around the block and loaded them into the front seat of her beetle. Cranking up the little engine she pulled out, singing "We're on the road again..." at the top of her voice.
-
Spar couldn't help laugh at patoo, she is so refreshing, she just wants to soak up the sun, read, walk the beach and well, take a vacation. hahahhahaha. she is scared of ghost and even when she sees them says I don't believe in you go away and they mind her. it is so funny to see.
We are all excited waiting for gryffinn and her babies to get here, we love dogs sometimes I think more than humans. We didn't know if she was scared of ghost or not. Spar says not. Harley and patoo says I better wait and see. I want someone adventurous to go on a trip with me. I wonder if we have any doggies outfits in the trunk for the time machine.........
-
Spar got to thinking, not a good idea sometimes, I wonder is Gryffinn would do us some nice pictures for our walls so we can remove those people lining the hall that their eyes follow you around. They really spook me. I tried to take them down but the housekeeper physically held me back and said it is imperitive they must stay where they are. Now, what does that mean.
-
Gryffin drove all day, stopping only for food and potty breaks. A few hours after dinner she was exhausted, and took the next exit she saw. There was a small motel off the interchange with a vacancy sign. The "v" was blinking. She'd really prefer a chain motel, but it was late, and she decided to risk it. She entered the small office and rang the bell. An elderly woman came out almost immediately. "Oh, my dear, I was about to close the office for the night. Do you need a room?"
"Yes, please," Gryffin replied. "I hope you'll allow two small dogs?"
They chatted a few minutes and arranged the details. Gryffin took her key, wished the old woman a good night, and headed to the room on the corner. The outside of the inn was shabby, but the room looked and smelled clean and fresh. She checked the bathroom and decided it would definately do. She went back to her beetle, unloaded her duffle and a few drawing things and put them in the room. Then she leashed up her dogs and took them for a short walk. Returning to her room she did several quick sketches of the woman's face. Her crinkly smile was delightful, and she hoped to use the sketches as a basis for a painting later. After an hour or two of work, she finally succumbed and fell fast asleep, her little dogs snuggled around her.
She woke refreshed, double-checked the check-out time, and walked the dogs. A quick shower and she was on her way again, stopping briefly to thank the old woman. She'd slept well, and had several interesting dreams. They were about ghostly children walking the halls of an old mansion. She smiled at her fancy. She wasn't really at all sure she believed in ghosts.
When she stopped for lunch she called her aunt and uncle, who lived in southern Wisconsin. As she'd hoped, they were home and would be delighted to let her stay overnight at their house. They talked until late about the mansion, the stories about ghosts inhabiting it, and the goals of providing a sanctuary for breast cancer survivors there. She had a wonderful visit, and with hugs and smiles, didn't leave until late morning of the next day. Full of pancakes and maple syrup, her dogs full of scraps, they headed contentedly westward.
-
Gryffin drove uneventfully for several more days, and finally reached the eastern-most edge of Oregon. It was late, so she realized she'd have to drive the rest of the way the following day. She was filled with excitement to see her old friend again, and to see the gorgeous mansion described in the article.
She slept well and took a long walk in the morning with her dogs. The sun was up, shining brightly, and she looked forward to reaching the coast by late afternoon. She put her duffel in the trunk and leaned against her car. Pulling her cell phone out of her bag, she called Spar and left a message that she expected to arrive in time for dinner tonight.
Merlin and Willow hopped up onto the passenger seat and eagerly looked out the window as they pulled out of the motel parking lot. Gryffin popped a CD in the stereo and sang along, feeling excited and happier than she'd been in quite some time.
-
We were all so excited when gryffin called and said she was having a really fun trip and would be here tomorrow. We fixed up the room facing the ocean and cliffs for her because it had 3 walls of glass and so much light. It will work beautifull for an artists. She doesn't think she believes in ghost but she sure will after a few weeks here. Can't wait to tell her the story of the wolfdog and how he was put to rest and met up with his owner. Thinking about it made me miss jondy a lot. I really love that girl. I bet gryffin is brave and adventurous enough to try the time machine. My crazy artsy friend, can hardly wait for her to arrive. We are planning on cooking lobsters. Someone else is gonna have to drop the in the boiling water cause they squeal and it scares me. I know that is funny since ghost don't.
-
The closer Gryffin got to the shore the happier she became. She loved the west coast and imagined sketching on the shore, visiting with friends, and relaxing after a brutal year of treatments. Crossing the mountain passes she enjoyed the change in plantlife. Greener, lusher, so inviting and beautiful.
She found herself wondering what was for dinner, and if she really would find that ghosts were real.
-
Just a note to let you guys know I will be away from the computer for a few days. Will catch up then.
-
Gryffin arrived at the mansion in the middle of the afternoon. The sun was shining, with a mild breeze off the ocean. Not at all a spooky, ghostly type of day. She pulled up the long, winding drive and parked near the front door. She got out and stretched, sniffing the sea breeze. Spar came out the front door and they hugged, laughing and talking all at once. It felt like no time at all had passed since they'd seen each other, and yet it was a lifetime ago.
Spar showed her to her room, which was absolutely fabulous. Full of light, with watercolors on the wall, and a cozy quilt on the bed, Gryffin felt immediately at home. Spar left her to settle in, so after tossing her duffle on the bed she grabbed a sketchbook and her dogs and headed to the beach. She waved to a woman walking the beach collecting seashells, but otherwise she had the place all to herself. She threw off her shoes and wandered at the edge of the waves awhile. Merlin and Willow had never been to the ocean before, but after an initial wariness, they got used to the soft crashing of the waves and enjoyed the walk as much as Gryffin did. After awhile she sat on a boulder and sketched.
After a couple of relaxing hours, Gryffin returned to the mansion. Upon entering, she smelled the delicious scent of lobster. Yum.
-
The women had a wonderful dinner, relating tales of the ghosts and time travel. Gryffin was excited, if a little skeptical, of exploring all these bizarre occurances. She insisted they look through the clothing chests right away, although she was too tired to attemp time travel that night. She saw several outfits that implied time periods that looked interesting.
After a glass of wine and dessert, she reluctantly went to her room to get ready for bed. It was so nice to visit with such wonderful women, who had so much in common. When she got to her room she found the dogs sitting in the lap of a young girl, dressed in a cream-colored dress. The girl was startled by Gryffin's appearance and disappeared. Oh my. Gryffin might have to dial down her skepticism a bit.
Later, after she'd donned her jammies and was sitting quietly reading, the little girl appeared again. The dogs wagged their tails and ran to her, jumping up to say hi. A shy smile appeared on her face, but she looked warily at Gryffin. "It's ok, I won't hurt you," said Gryffin, while making sure not to make any sudden moves. The oddest thing was that her dog's legs occasionally went through the girl's body. Weird.
The girl only stayed a few minutes, and although she opened her mouth a few times, as if to speak, no words came out. When she disappeared, Gryffin finally wound down enough to sleep.
She woke late and found the others already awake and eating breakfast. "Good morning all! Who wants to go try out that time machine?" She wolfed down some pancakes and looked expectantly around the table.
