Hard Lump behind earlobe
Comments

The saga continues, just when I have finished herceptin, and almost ready for the recontruction surgery, everything is falling apart. First I developed 2 boils 2 weeks ago that landed me in the hospital for IV antibiotics the week before thanksgiving. They have pretty much heal (one still has a lump though). Then I developed soreness in my hip, putting weight on it hurts. I saw the onc and I indicated that I believe since it is on the side where the boils were that it may be the drainage causing issues.... So he said, wait a week and if it isn't better he wants to scan... That was Friday. Today is Saturday and after my daughters birthday party, I discovered a pea sized lump on my neck, under my ear lobe that is too close to my bone to be a lymph node. It is a little sensitive, but very hard. I don't know whether to call the doctor, wait till monday, cry or what.... I just started on the anti cancer diet too cause I want to do all I can to keep away this monster. Thanks for the opportunity to vent. I know my hubby is worried as well and can't stand the anxiety that all of this brings.
I did read that it may be a cyst of some sort (???) --- never had one, but I know it is not a lymph node or another boil. I just don't understand why after just turning 50 everything is breaking!!!

I had a benign tumor in my left parotid gland right behind my left earlobe that was easily removed by an ENT. It is supposed to be fairly common and had nothing to do with my cancer. Don't worry but get it checked out.
Take care, Amy

Dear Amy,
Thank you so much! -- your diagnosis is fairly close to mine and it give me assurance. I will call the onc on Monday. lyn

Lyn, my lump was a bit different. It was on my neck near my vertebra. I noticed it was sore and that's how I knew it was there. I had an appointment with my primary (my onc is a couple of hours away so I didn't want to go there) in a couple of days. The soreness went away, but the lump was still there. He said it was about 1 cm. He said I could have it biopsied (because of my "history") or wait 2 weeks and come back. I chose the two weeks. It went away. I couldn't figure out why I had a swollen node because I had not been sick. However, I did have some intrusive dental work done so maybe that was it.
We worry about everything. Like Amy said, call your onc Monday. Try not to "over" worry.

Thanks for sharing Shirley. I discovered another on on the same side today on the bone above my ear. Same thing I think as it is same size and a little tender. I am going to wait and see if they don't disappear in a week. I just got the H1N1 shot and I have felt like a cold is coming on (taking zinc to run it off), so maybe it is just drainage of some sort.... anyway, I will let you know if it goes away as checking these boards when I have something weird is always reassuring.
Take care!

I am wishing you well. I think waiting a week is reasonable. Just keep us posted, please.

I agree - give it a week. Lumps behind the earlobe are common. Probably a sebacious cyst that may resolved by itself.

They are most likely little lymph nodes, I has that happen 1 year prior to BC and it was a cold and allergies, had an MRI and everything but they said it happens often for drainage.
