Canadian, post menopausal and ER+

HI,

Just wanting to connect with Canadian women who are post menopausal and ER+. Wondering about your hormonal treatment et al.

    HI Caroline.  There is a Canadian connection thread on this site and the Canadian  girls check in there quite often.  

    I took tamoxifen for one year but was switched to Arimidex after my ooph.  I had more issues with the tamoxifen so the change was good for me in terms of se's.  However, in Canada, the tamoxifen is much cheaper than the AI's if you don't have insurance.

    Hi Caroline

    I am Canadian, post menopausal, similar diagnosis to you, and have been on Arimidex for 3 1/2 years. Not many side effects..... hot flashes (lots of those) and some soreness in my wrists and ankles from time to time.  I have osteoporosis in my lower spine.... and take Actonel for that.  I believe it is caused (or at least worsened) by Arimidex.

    I am on tamoxifen. My dosage has been adjusted to 30mg as I am an intermediate metabolizer. Interesting you are both on an AI.

    In Alberta, the cost of tamoxifen  is totally covered.

    In BC, the arimidex is totally covered as long as I get it from the cancer clinic.  They send it to the local hospital and I pick it up there from the pharmacy.

    American living in Japan.  I went through premature ovarian failure when I was 32, so 18 years post menopausal.  Do they recommend having ovaries removed even if someone is post?

    I am on Femara, was on Tamoxifen for two months, switched because no appetite on Tamoxifen and was getting leg cramps. Femara, is worst for side effetcs but I felt it was more suited for me as I am menopaused
