I went in for my first treatment today and had a bad reaction to the Taxol, so I won't be able to take that.  My oncologist is switching me to Cytoxan, Taxotere and Avastin which I will start on Friday.  I'm dissapointed as I wanted to get this show on the road!  Anyone else on this combo?

I had the reaction to taxol.  After about 7 or 8 minutes my chest began to tighten up, making it hard to breath and my face became flushed.  They stopped it right away.  They said it happens with some people.  It does not hurt at all going in.  I could not feel a thing until I got the reaction.  I think you should have someone drive you home.  They give you benadryl first and it makes you drowsy.  In talking with some of the others getting chemo, they said they had minimal side effects from the chemo, although everyone is different.  I'm hoping it won't be as bad as....well you know!    Are you starting taxol? Or the combo I that I'm switching to? I'm starting the new combo on Friday.

    Good luck to you,

    Hugs

    Amy

I had taxotere and cytoxan.  I had a reaction like you described to the taxotere, but they were able to premedicate me with steroids and benedryl, and then drip it very slowly.  I ended up being in the infusion room for about 6 - 7 hours each time, but I was able to get through all four treatments.  The side effects for me were few - just mainly fatigue and some taste changes.  Good luck to you!

i was diagnosed on the 30th of april 2009 and had TC and avastin x 4 rounds, i will be on avastin till next june. I had a reaction on the 2nd chemo round, same type of reaction and they though it was a chemical reaction between drugs and chaged it back to getting avastin first and slower over the 90 mins, more flushes and steroids. Chemo does not hurt at all but the neddle can especially as veins get scarcer, but all very doabke. Taxotere is a very harsh drug on your system like your nails joints etc. but more so when you are finished it.

really you feel a bit hungover for a few months, the cytoxan played havoc with my sinuses, drinking plenty of fluids to flush the system is hard but a straw helps. the taste changes are horrible and some foods that i ate while on chemo i cant touch now. Be prepared to gain a little weight and be kind to yourself.

best of luck with it, when is your next scan?

Newbie Here - When everyone says they got ACT, do they mean Avastin or Adriamycin and copaxene and a form of Taxotere? Also, what does NED mean? I have an urgent situation here that I really need help with. Will tell my story in another post.

Triple Neg. DX 3/08. Lumpectomy 5/08, C& T and then Double Mast 10/08. Filled with cancer then. Now have skin Mets. Finished 35 rounds Rad 11/6/09 PET clean. Now Onc #1 wants to put me on Adriamycin. Second opinion onc. wants Avastin and zeloda.

Hi Newbie here as well.....I just started taxotere after completing 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytraxan....can someone help me with the side effects of taxotere? I'm having really bad dry mouth and throat - to the point where i feel like my mouth and throat are closing up.....its really bothersome! The joint pain and sores in fingers are also starting......DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS FOR THE DRY MOUTH AND THROAT SIDE EFFECTS? I wonder if its because my ONC is giving me 100 mg/cc's(not sure which) of taxotere - when the standard protcol is 75/80 mg/cc.

ACT is usually the chemo combo of Adriamycin, Cytoxan and Taxol.  NED means No Evidence of Disease and the best words you'll ever hear!  People usually say NED since no one knows if they are ever truly cured.

    Hi Dershell

I have the same response to the chemo - mouth sores / sore throat etc. I prepare a mouth wash twice a day. Heat a cup of water (as hot as tea coffee) and add salt. Thoroughly rinse the salt water solution around your mouth and spit out. Continue until the salt water soluition has gone and repeat twice a day. It really helps me - my gums were swollen and blisters on my tongue / down my throat. It really sorts it. My chemo nurse put me on to this and hope it helps you XX.

My heart goes out to you and I pray to God that He would move you to visit this site: www.jtscentral.com.

They're offering a self-help program for Biblical Gene Therapy at no cost, and I am one of those who were healed of Immunocompromised disease. My sister also was healed of tongue cancer, and I have a friend who was healed of colorectal cancer. Our testimonies are posted there complete with medical proof and pictures. This is relatively new, although the principle has always been there thousands of years ago. It really works if you believe in Jesus Christ. By His stripes we are healed. It is only up to you to pursue it.

I'm spreading the news for the glory of Jesus Christ who died for me and not only saved me but also healed me of my maladies. This is for everyone with any kind of sickness wiht no exception. Nothing to lose but everything to gain. My email ad is myeuphoria777@yahoo.com in case you have questions.

May God bless you all and move you to avail of His goodness. This is a much neglected part of salvation that Jesus Christ secured for you at the cost of so much pain. Please give Him a chance to prove His love for you.
