    Ladies can anyone help?

I was dx with DCIS on Nov. 24 had lat. mast. just got the latest pathology that they found 3 small tumors 6mm 1mm and .5mm. Very small but PR+ ER- and  HER2 + (5.2 fishes).  I was mentally prepared for the mast. but not chemo.  I just found out today and yet to meet with my oncologist.  But, I understand I may need to go through 6 chemos spaced 3 weeks apart.  Does this sound right?  The drug they are proposing is nurve racking.  Any info you could provide on chemo or thoughts on complimentary drugs would be great.

    Dear Colleen:

Wondering why you would need chemo for DCIS? Are the 3 tumors in addition to your DCIS?

Colleen, I'm guessing that the three small tumors that were found during surgery are invasive cancer, not DCIS, correct?  If that's the case, then your diagnosis is no longer DCIS Stage 0; with the discovery of invasive cancer, your diagnosis changes to IDC, Stage I (I expect that you are stage I, given the size of the tumors and the fact that your nodes were clear).

And it's because of these invasive tumors, and particularly the fact that they are HER2+, that you are being prescribed chemo and, I'm guessing, Herceptin.  As for the chemo regimen, because women with pure DCIS don't require chemo, most of the women who read and respond here in the DCIS forum don't have familiarity with chemo.  I'd suggest that you repost your question either in the Chemotheraphy forum or in the HER2+ forum. There will be lots of women there who've been through those treatments and who can offer advice.  Good luck to you as you go through the rest of your treatments.
