tumeric or curcumin tablets, what's more effective
Hi all,
I am new to this forum but have been lurking here of late. I have had one progression with a hormone blocker and am now trying another. Increased bone pain makes me think this is not working either. I have been reading about curcumin. I know one of the problems in poor absorption. I have been putting tumeric mixed with a little oil and black pepper in food. Are the tablets more effective? Also any other suggestions for natural supplements would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jackie

I took the capsule form for quite a while. I believe you get more from the capsule/pill form than you could just from adding it to food (but not 100% sure). I only stopped taking it because I found out it is not good for people who have gallstones, which I have but are not bothering me yet.
I am not a total natural girl but I also take Vitamin D and Omega 3 fish oil and calcium for my bones (not for the cancer).

I took curcumin in 2 different tablets and had great relief from bone pain. Still taking them as they are meant to be anti-cancer as well.

Hi Jackie,
I am so sorry to hear you have increased bone pain sweetie
I am Nan (actually Nancy), and my daughter was dx with TNBC in June of 2007. Since reading the book Anticancer a new Way of Life, by David Servan-Schreiber, Lori (and I), have been using the organic ground Turmeric root, and just as you said you are doing .The tablets are not as effective as the fresh ground root. Turmeric is absolutely proven to fight cancer and many other diseases. By mixing it with the black pepper it increases the body's ability to absorb it by 2000%. If you haven't read the book, believe me, it is filled with information, and based on Servan-Schreiber's bout (dx two times ), with brain cancer.
Are you taking vitamin D3, Calcium and Magnesium? If you go to the Life Extension web site, you can find information on cancer treatments and vitamins/supplements.Here is the link for their web site.
I know that many oncs forbid any vitamins/supplements during treatments, so I am guessing you will have to ask before taking any if you are currently on chemo? My daughter has stated many times that if she knew then what she knows now, she would have taken everything she could to prevent the side effects of the chemo and rads, and would have never told her oncs.
Many Hugs Jackie....
Nan

As Nancy mentioned, the fresh root is ideal, but if you aren't going to eat it everyday, then a supplement is good, or better. You need curcumin on a daily and sustained basis to get the benefits. Life Extension makes a super absorbable one, as well as Minerva. Also, you might check into the following: Vitamin D3 mega dosing, Green Tea, Loxin 5, CoQ10, omega 3 with high EPA, hormone balance via bioidenticals, methylating estrogen with Indole 3 Carbinol, sulfaphorane, melatonin....check out UzziReissMD.com....He has a genomic breast cancer protocol that I am now on, but I am still working the kinks out because it is complicated. I'm still figuring it all out, but there are good metabolites of estrogen that are protective even for us tnbc girls. Also, Avemar Ultra and Immpower, or coriolus mushroom will boost your natural killer cells; some insist that the immune system is critical for bc and others say it doesn't matter. I believe a good immune system will work in your favor.
